I have been all over the board as having in the teens for a number of watches to down to four in the last few years. What I have learned, for me, is buy and own what you have a passion for. I sometimes get hung-up on not wearing a watch for a period of time but that is soon fixed when I wear it. I have also flipped over the years and chased the same watch back into my collection as many as three times, the Hulk. So I have learned to just wear them, enjoy them and not worry about it. It is not like I am above flipping one of my current watches, I am. It just has to be because I am done with it or I need funds for the next purchase. It never ends for me and I don't think I want it too. It is part of the fun of collecting for me.

I think it's part of the "natural" collecting process for many. Your time and attention and passion can only be spread out amongst so many watches. Owning and wearing pieces for periods of time tells you what you REALLY like. But at the beginning you buy many trying to get a feel for your tastes and you refine and optimize your collection to pieces you really feel suit you the best.

But it depends, others never sell a thing. Even though I have many watches I'm just holding onto for investment purposes (cuz they're more fun than a stock), I only rotate between two watches.

I am now of the opinion that less is more.

Went from 10-12 down to 5-6 that I love and wear frequently.

Getting rid of lesser/marginal pieces for a few trophies, few every-days and a few beaters.

That seems to be serving me well.
