Fantastic
Rolex is truly catching fast the Patek "cult" of outstanding vintage watches to own.
Truly awesome!

what this is going to do to the Newman market before I can get my hands on a measly 6239 Newman is what makes me depressed....

Yet just another sign of the insane upward climb in prices of vintage Rolexes, with this Daytona and that $5M 6062 Moonphase in the same auction leading the way. Sigh.

Everything vintage Rolex is just exploding upward. Seems like every auction sets new records for the pieces they're selling. When will it ever end??

Thomas imho 80% (I'm being conservative) of the Paul Newmans you see on IG are not what you may think The Franken Fake Daytona market right now is the worst I've seen it. Every part is being expertly copied. Its wild west and its extremely difficult to tell.

Is this the same model (sans bracelet) that was on the Antiques Roadshow last year in Omaha? It was a gold Paul Newman model from the early 70s. The guy bought it new for like $350. The appraiser valued it at $100k, as I recall.

Even if these lots command crazy money the times when you could pick up rare references in great condition cheap long gone.

Congratulations to the buyer, seller and Phillips.

Fair play to him. If I spent that much money on a watch, I think my wife might have words when the credit card statement came in!

I followed day 1 - but didn't catch this fight on day 2...apparently it was out of control. One bidder walked out, then came back in, etc...

When u have that much money to drop $4M on a watch, the price doesn't really matter.
