When you buy from a trusted seller

Does anyone ever ask you where you purchased your watch? Has anyone ever looked at you with skepticism when you tell them? Just wondering if anyone has received weird looks or comments when telling someone you bought your Rolex "online", or "wired money to a guy"? This is something that probably only WIS would understand doing, and how it really works.

Yes I've gotten some pretty weird looks when I mention that I bought mine from a trusted seller via TRF...

I would think non-WIS would assume you only bought it at and ADs, and WIS would ask, what's his website?

Colleague of mine wanted to buy a Rolex and asked me where to go. Told him I bought online from who and why. He was scared to do same and went to the AD.
Whatever makes you comfortable you should do

In the sense that its a lot of money to send for an online transaction, yes.

I've gotten a few stares mostly from my wife

I usually say I got it from a guy in Times Square.

And when they ask, "Is it real?" I answer, "It better be. I paid 100 bucks for it!"

i have done both, buying from trusted TRF sellers and from several AD's.
Most important is your relationship with each one.
Best to You.

I think it is safe to say wiring high sums of money to someone you have never met and only have internet review to vouch for is unimaginable for most people. But after my first transaction with trusted TRF seller, I will definitely willing to do business with them again. But I must say that first transaction was definitely a leap of faith though.

My answer is honest and does the trick. "I know a guy..." and sometimes, "my Rolex guy." #Badass

What kind of question is that? People ask me where I got things that they like ALL the time, including my watches. Obviously that's why I asked the question.

A few of my friends love watches but aren't exactly WIS. These guys know the online process and while they don't think I'm out of my mind to wire money to strangers it's definitely outside of their comfort zone. A few of these guys have bought pre-owned but only from a storefront or Crown & Caliber.

I would think only a wis would ask, like if they knew it was a discontinued model that couldn't be had at AD's anymore etc. so they could ask where you got it...

No one has ever asked me where I bought my watches.........but if it was a trusted seller or other merchant and I felt the transaction worthy of a referral I would certainly show them were to go online..........and show them this forum.

I know several Rolex owners and only one mentioned where he bought his, a pawn shop. He's very wealthy, just extremely frugal. I've never been asked about mine and would never ask. Oh, just remembered another friend bought his first in a Navy exchange. He is a collector and has some beauties. He volunteered the information.

Hilarious. ADs give me that same look when they ask, and I mention a gray market place. I know it all too well.

Yes I have, and it it was from my local authorized Rolex AD after they offered only $2,500 for a vintage Rolex diver that a TRF seller offered $9k towards the same trade!
