Officer down, Bluefield PD West Virginia

Lieutenant Aaron Crook was killed in a vehicle crash at the intersection of Princeton Avenue and Lee Street shortly after midnight yesterday while involved in a vehicle pursuit of a suspected drunk driver.

He suffered fatal injuries when his patrol car collided with another Bluefield Police Department patrol car and a West Virginia State Police patrol car. He was transported to Bluefield General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The officers in the other two patrol cars suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The subject involved in the pursuit was arrested and charged with several felonies and misdemeanors.

Lieutenant Crook was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Bluefield Police Department for nine years. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Wow Tim. Way too many of these this week. With the recent rash of officer related deaths by shooting it easy to forget traffic related deaths will always be a large problem.

Although I hate seeing everyone of these I can't thank you enough for posting. Even the most disciplined amongst us can fall victim to complacency and I know for me your post, each and every unfortunate one, helps me keep my focus.

I also appreciate your desire to honor our fallen and appreciate your commitment to that honorable duty.

You are so very correct with this statement, I had more close calls with vehicles than I ever had with firearms (both while driving as well as standing alongside the roadway), complacency will kill or maim you fast in our line of work.
Be safe out there brother.
Never forget the ultimate goal for each tour.
