Dust on dial of new 114060

First time posting here but a longtime lurker. I just picked up a new 114060 from my local AD a week ago and have been loving it. I had a sea dweller many years ago and sold it (mistake) so it felt great to be back with a classic.

However, I just noticed what appears to be a speck of dust on the dial to the left of the 17 minute marker. I initially thought it was just some dust on the outside of the crystal, however after carefully wiping, cleaning, and inspecting it is still there and looks to be on the dial. Now I can't unsee it

I've already contacted my AD and have a good relationship with them as I have purchased many watches from them over the years. My contact there will be asking the owners what they can do for me, however as I told him, it would be really annoying to have to send the watch back to Rolex for who knows how long only a week after I purchased it. I wonder if I would be able to exchange it for one with no defect on the dial (probably wishful thinking)?

Have any of you ever been in this situation?

Years ago I had a DOXA that had a small fiber on the dial stuck in the paint on the lettering, required a dial replacement even though I only had the watch a couple days. Probably will depend on your AD, keep us posted.
BTW, welcome to TRF.

Question

Do you need a loupe to see the dust particle or is it visible with the naked eye?

Rolex quality control is horrible. Rehaut crown doesn't line up... bezel doesn't line up to the 12 marker... sad, but true. Roll of the dice.

Tell me about it, I wore an IWC to the office today to keep my mind off it. Then I went to lunch with my colleague who was sporting his BLNR

No loupe needed, clearly visible to the naked eye.

If it irks you, simply let dealer send it to Rolex. No biggie. The Sub ND here was -7 seconds a day, waited a month and she stayed the same, so Mayors sent it in, she is now +7 seconds per month. :)

My rule with Rolex watches is if its visible to you without a loupe then have it fixed. i had similar problems with my Explorer I and it really irked me so i had the Toronto RSC change the dial. This was done in under a week.

2 things that I don't have...

OCD (thankfully) and really good eyes anymore.

It's not my watch, but if it bothers you, get it fixed.

Send it in, you spent a lot of money for Rolex quality and the watch needs to put a smile on your face every time you look at it.

I hope they exchange it for you. This is not acceptable in a new watch. Not to me, at least. Rolex takes pride in the quality of their workmanship and dial. This is not something that happened after a while (so it would be a warranty issue). This was a flaw that went unnoticed at the time of purchase, due to buyer having confidence in Rolex's workmanship and quality. I would personally ask for and push for a replacement.

Discovered the same issue with mine last week. A spec that only became apparent in the bright sunshine outside, but once you see it, you can see it. Naked eye, no loup needed. I've had for less than month, bought new from AD while traveling. Debating whether to bring into RSC and if so, to do it now or much later.

Slightly different but a week after buying my Speedy Pro sapphire sandwich, I noticed a small fibre on the movement. Wasn't there when I got it so I imagine the movement had pushed I around and it was now in a visible place.

I sent it to the AD and it had a movement service under warranty. Came back in 2 weeks even more accurate than when I bought it!

It's an half hour fix by any watchmaker, open up, pass with Rodico and finished. Really nothing to worry

Personally, I would have that dust or lint removed at RSC. Would be surprised if you get an exchange but certainly worth trying that route first. Good luck.

I had a similar experience when I purchased my 14060m from an AD in Cincinnati years ago. When I called to complain and ask for a new watch, I was told the "lint" on the dial was not a "defect." They sent it to Rolex and I had the watch back in under 3 weeks. It sucks!

Thanks for the responses everyone, I stopped by my AD this morning to see what could be done, expecting to have to part with the watch for some unknown amount of time.

I have been buying watches from my AD for over 10 years and I was reminded again this morning of why I have kept coming back. I presented the watch to them, which had all of the stickers removed and had been sized and worn for the better part of last week. They took one look at it, apologized profusely, and immediately brought out a new unboxed 114060 for me to inspect, no questions asked.

After filling out the warranty information and a quick sizing, I was on my way, a happy camper with a dust-free new 114060 to enjoy.

It is refreshing to see that there are still some places that put the customer and their experience first.

Instead, I was again reminded of why I have been returning to the same AD for more than a decade. My opinion, totally unsolicited of course, is that if you can see it with the naked eye, then send it in. Otherwise...........don't sweat it.

Having said that, I always use a loup in the AD when looking at the piece I am going to buy, but it is more for ascertaining if there is damage to the PM case/bracelet/crystal than anything else.

Now that is what I call customer service. Not many ADs would do this thats for sure.

Its the usual send it to RSC to handle.
