ceramic. light but more brittle
Platinum. heavy/softer material
gold. heavy/softer material
FC. light but the edges can wear down
Steel. good every day/all around choice
titanium good every day/all around choice
I was thinking about this last night. I've been looking at the 44's and while I love the look of the ceramic case, if it got knocked just right on the case it could chip rather than end up with a ding like on a steel case. While the ding on the steel watch would still be 'painful' to live it I know that potentially it can be rectified, but how do you rectify a chip on the ceramic case? Can AP fix it?

No! I recently damaged my ceramic bezel and AP said that ceramic can't be the finished so I had to buy a new bezel. I've stopped wearing it for squash etc now. Since being repaired it's the ultimate sports watch getting zero sports action.

there is at least one thread on here on a case replacement for a ceramic diver that was cracked that I've seen before. Ceramic carries a risk (although small) of cracking if you bang it just right, but it looks good. I would get one, just wouldn't wear it every day and in every situation.

Yes! But not everyone likes the warmer tone of Ti. I for one love it. AP also manages to polish it very well on the chamfers.

I won't talk about the pros of each, there are too many, but the disadvantages,

FC I would be wearing to the gym and daily wear, worried if I damage the carbon it can't be polished out and will remain damaged or a hefty bill from AP

Ro again I would be wearing daily, is it a very heavy watch? I have quite small wrists you see.

Thanks

Carbon hides scratches very well. At least from my experience. The edges do smooth out over time and lose some of the sharpness. I would never wear an AP to the gym. I leave those duties to either my fitbit or my Rolex EXP2.

The FC is prone to damage especially on the corners wearing down from what i have heard. The RG is damage prone too as its softer than steel. Wearing carefully, neither are an issue.

Personally no matter the material, i would not wear a 44 to the gym. But I'm sure some do without issue .

I think you might be right. The TI might be the best solution as a one watch option.

This is pretty spot on, and I will add that I didn't even notice till it was gone and I saw a new piece.

I did wear mine to the gym pretty much daily for 2.5 yrs, absolutely LOVED that piece!!!

You used to were the platty to squash! This is exactly why the full ceramic case is off putting. So everyone complains how much a scratch magnet the steel bezel is on the RO and then you have the full ceramic bezel which is prone to chipping and then a hefty replacement bill to follow. At least with the Rolex you have the ceramic inset into the bezel so it has some form of protection. Still though the AP's look amazing. Just don't do anything when you wear it!

Does the titanium case have the same color like stainless steel case?

No. I would say it's a bit warmer in tone.

its a catch 22 for sure. For me though, i know for sure i am getting scratches all over the ss no matter what i do, but i 'might' chip the ceramic. I would rather avoid the sure thing (scratches) than worry about the maybe (ceramic breaking).

Over time, the betting odds are always on the ceramic looking better overall. Its just when the ceramic loses, it loses big time
