Long awaited first Sub purchase (little help)
Long story short. I made a purchase over EBay for a 97 Gold and blue submariner. This dealer has a 100% satisfaction rating from over the years. Not one negative thing ever said so I'm feeling pretty good. He also offers a 14 money back guarantee if I don't like it for any reason. I plan on taking it in to get it looked at by a professional Tuesday but my curiosity won't keep me from posting. This was a complete set. Everything looks to match and checkout. I'm happy from the original boxing papers and what not. I was at a little party last night where a good friend of mine has several watches. He thought it looked good but he did question the face. I again emailed the dealer and he said 100% authentic. While I want to believe society is still great I'm a cynic. I posted a picture. The face seems to have very tiny bubbles or maybe even craze cracking. Has anyone ever seen this? Could it be fake?
He told me again today, if I'm not happy send it back and he will refund it 100%. So that has me second guessing myself. Am I too hard? I know Rolex doesn't send anything out unless it's flawless but it's 1997... Questions? Comments? I'm a being a worry wart? Thank you! |

Any more pictures?
Keep in mind, it's a 20 year old watch. Some of the tritium dials get pretty aged. I can tell you the print and color is spot on. |

For the record. All the boxes are perfect. All the numbers match and the little tag is hologram. It feels great. Maybe the time adjust is a little loose, my buddies who is a 95 is much more right and stout.

Sounds like you'd be happier with a newer watch. Vintage is a special taste and twenty years old is up there.

Genuine IMO.
Bezel is over polished based on low quality photos. More pictures would help determine the facts of your watch. |

Not sure how that came across at all. I'm very happy but also want to make sure I didn't get scammed. If that's normal then I'm good. Just want to feel confident |

you'll always have doubts wearing it.
send it back and start a new search unless you got it for a very good price. |

Yes.
That is not very unusual aging. |

Yes I have and so have other sellers that can chime in. A lot of the older lacquer dials in the five digit series do this (fat lady 16760 is infamous, some 16710/16700s, I've seen it on subs too online).....usually from infrequent service intervals and moisture enters the case (seals giving out usually from the crystal side)and cause this hazing/crazing on the dial. I think it looks cool if it's even and subtle, other opinions may differ....but yeah others are correct it's almost a vintage acquired taste. I will say I've never seen it on a colored sunburst dial though....but it wouldn't surprise me.
