Buying Rolex Watches on the Forum

Question for those who bought Rolex watches on the forum. Any other things that one should look out for besides the obvious? Seller Ratings/Feedback to me is key along with pictures of the item and the quality of the post. For those in the USA, have you ever bought a watch from Canada? Do we have to pay duty taxes on it?

Anything imported into the US is subject to applicable duty based on Federal Law and the Harmonized Tariff Schedule

I've bought a few recently from here (all from USA) and have had flawless transactions. I think if you look at the feedback along with the pictures that's a great start. A lot of sellers here have their own websites they'll reference and that's another good spot to look. Good luck!

If you are buying used, no matter who you buy it from, have it checked out for authenticity.

Besides going to RSC to authenticate, you can try the more budget and quicker way by going to those watch shops who can help to authenticate rolex watches. RSC usually cant do it within a day.

My default way to buy a Rolex new or pre owned is through the forums trusted sellers like David, Tony, etc.. Their reputation is very important to them and they deal with forum members a lot. They understand we are a different breed from the average customer and have very high standards and expectations. Reputation for the seller and buyer goes way beyond one watch sale as we are multiple watch customers and live the watch culture. I would have no problem buying directly from a trusted forum member that has a long and well established reputation. We know how to take care and properly describe a watch to the point that it takes most all risk away from buying from a private seller. It all goes back to that "reputation" that takes years to earn on the forums. I guarantee forum veterans know more about their watches than your average Rolex AD.

There a few good sellers here but imo the only name you should be thinking about is David SW. His pricing is competitive and occasionally he has a bargain on offer but his service is first class. Never had a bad experience or read a bad review. First class.

I would have no problem at all buying from an active TRF member not being a dealer. Obviously you read up on his posts and make your judgement.
For somebody occasionally flipping a watch it is simply impossible to build a trusted seller reputation.

I'm one of those guys that likes to buy and sell on TRF. It's difficult to get started, but hopefully after a few transactions, people will start to trust you and vice versa.

As for Canada, I've had sellers tell me that we (USA) don't have to pay duty on it, but I think that's only if we don't get caught. I've bought from DavidSW and he's a stand-up guy, but there are other options, many with better prices.

Throwing another name into the list, Patrick (OCROLEXGUY) is a great seller with excellent watches and top notch service. I've lost count how many times I've used him and have never had an issue.

Never bought from Canada, but have from UK and various Asian countries and did not have to pay taxes. Maybe I just got lucky.

No AD close to me, so always use the forum to buy and sell. David is my go to guy for modern watches and Kirill for vintage. Actually prefer it over the AD. Just so easy to send a text and have the watch the next day at my office.

Just a heads up guys I posted in the wrong section of forum accidentally while using phone forum app. I've asked moderators to move this thread to general discussion area. Sorry for the mixup!

Personally, I have dealt with DavidSW and Takuya(David and Thanh respectively). Nothing but praise for both! Rest assured you will get what you paid for with no hassle and no question as to authenticity.

Good luck-

Scott
