Has anyone lost interest in watches?

Just wondering have you guys ever heard of someone who lost interest in the hobby? Obviously no one posting on this forum haha.

I've known a few folks in my life who move from one thing to another.
They will be 100% into something for a few years and then next time you see them and ask about it and it's like "I'm not really into that anymore - NOW I'm into...."
All good but I'm the kinda person who is still into all the things I liked when I was 20.

I wouldn't say lost interest in watches, but my interest for example Rolex is almost gone. I guess it's "over saturation"...

I've got a buddy who's amassed a pretty good collection, he's gonna sell them off since he realized he's a one or two watch guy. So, hasn't lost interest, just knows he doesn't want idle pieces

Ive lost most of my interest.

I started wearing just a Fitbit for a while.

Just found a dj41 though and I'm happy wearing a watch again.

But my interest in the hobby has waned severely.

I still like watches -- ordered a Grand Seiko a few days ago, which hopefully will arrive from Japan tomorrow

I am still very interested in watches but tired of the marketing/demand game the manufacturers and AD's play. The situation with the Daytona-C is not acceptable for a modern company. Rolex is playing games like it was 20 years ago and the internet and other resources don't exist. They are driving a secondary market that works against the brand in my opinion. They could , if they wanted to, solve the issue in a span of months or a year with the release of enough Daytona-C's to the AD dealer market to stop the profiteering and take care of customers. It is good to see the SD43 prices adjusting toward msrp and I am not even going to speak to the issues at PP with the 5711. I think these are the games that hurt companies in the long run and drive customers away. Just my thoughts.

I'm happy with the 3 Rolex's in my current rotation. Flipping watches is costly and adding more really isn't an option as I would rather invest in others things. Without the excitement of acquiring something new the hobby can become a little stale. So I would say my interest isn't the same as it once was but I still love this forum and still love talking watches with people.

My interest in watches still exists, but I enjoy vicariously through the photos of other people. I have lost interest in one of my other hobbies (pocket knives), but other wise I still enjoy well made luxury goods.

I'm pretty happy with my collection as well. I don't really think there is another watch at this time in my life that I'm thinking about picking up. I still love watches, just not in the market.

Yes, me.

I very nearly lost interest in watches awhile back when impulse buying and flipping caught up to me. I had watches I did not like or wear, I wanted others. All in all it made no sense, I have enough "things".

I very nearly gave up. Every forum, Basel show and dealer served to fuel my discontent. I was obsessing over details, posts, images . . .

I gave away watches and sold others to pare my collection down to a more reasonable level. I stopped buying. I set a rule that I would only buy one watch a year and that has now stretched into every two years.

I need to sell more watches as I still have too many. I am happier with what I have, but I pay less attention to product announcements or events as they are never timely.

For me now it is about enjoying what I have and when I can sell two or three more to get one nicer piece, I will be even happier.

I've got so many watches now that I'm swimming in them, but I bought a vintage Hamilton Illinois about a month ago and put a vintage LeCoutre on layaway yesterday.

I guess you could say that I've still got the bug.

I came out of retirement for this thread, at one point I had 7 watches, 4 Rolex's and 2 Omega's. Truthfully, the people on this forum forced me out of the Rolex market with:

"is it safe to wear threads, I scratched a PCL thread or can I pee with my Rolex on threads". It's a WATCH, not something that comes out once a year for Christmas dinner.

I decided rather than get banned, I'd move on. I liquidated everything and wear an Omega Planet Ocean SMP 24/7, it's the perfect watch for my newly found retirement lifestyle. Which happened shortly thereafter

When a commodity loses its exclusive nature, esoteric interest tends to wane. At one time Rolexes and BMWs (e.g. late 1960s-early 1970s) were kind of cool. Once they became yuppie mainstream/status-symbols (1980s and onwards), it became almost an embarrassment to be seen wearing or driving one.

The UK situation on SS Rolexes is annoying, I started lecturing an AD today, place was absolutely empty as usual only sales staff in there, and the poor girl was trying to tell me this is a great marketing strategy as she's been programmed to do, but once I started I just let her have it. However I did manage to get the 7 year wait on the Daytona extended to ten years just for me.
