Rolex Daytona Perpertual/Annual Calendar

What do you think if Rolex updated the 4130 and integrate a modification to facilitate calendar function?

How does it work? Here’s an idea. With start/stop pusher screw in, chronograph function reset and disengaged. 12 Hours counter will function as Month indicator and 30 Mins counter function as Day indicator. How bout 31st? This requires a new small indicator which could also function as Function Indicator (Chrono On/Off).

Optional: Rolex could add another small indicator to show 1/2/3/4 for leap year indication but not required for annual calendar version.

No doubt Rolex could make such caliber, their technical pool is abundant.

Would be awesome in my opinion. Not that Rolex would ever consider this.

I prefer the current function with the current price, instead of paying thousands more for functions I don't need on the Daytona.

I know a lot of people complaining Daytona lack the date function. Please keep in mind that it is marketed and accepted as a racing car sporty model. So what is the date function for?

If anything, I think they'll merge the day date and the sky dweller. I think there was a mock up of it at one point that can illustrate it better than my words. Will look...

Do you expect race driver to actually use the chrono function during racing? Unless speed limit is 20-30mph, I doubt any sane driver will use it to time and read the elapsed time.

Same argument with dive watch with date. Remember when Rolex added the cyclop to the new Sea Dweller?

Wasn't the chrono function originally intended for use by someone at the start/finish line (or wherever) watching the car, rather than driving it?

Not the driver. The team manager or race official.

No I don't, it's all about the concept and image.

To the Sea Dweller cyclop, yes functionally it is useless. I guess more or less Rolex is trying to show the world its achievement. It was believed that cyclop can cause structural weaknesses and shatter the front before reaching the desired depth of water. Rolex now says its new SD design and technology can safely go 4000ft deep without problem - with the cyclop

An annual calendar in the 36mm daydate case would be an INSTANT buy for me. Lose the second timezone while they're at it.

It's Cyclops in the singular, named after one of these guys. Plural is Cyclopes.

Probably used to calculate split times for stage races (like rallys) with the copilot doing the timing.

Let’s wait for our resident race car driver, Dr Tom, to chime in for his opinion. I bet he need date function to sign his contract :D

A perpetual calendar chronograph is way out there for Rolex, I think an annual or possibly a perpetual on a Day-Date is most likely.

Interesting thought about a Rolex perpetual calendar. Rolex had triple calendars way back before most forum members were born, but have long since been discontinued. I am sure Rolex can develop their own perpetual calendar movement in-house. However whether they will is another question.

Since Rolex has a solid annual calendar and a chronograph, it seems more likely for Rolex to come out with an AC chrono watch as their most complicated watch.

I think I remember Dr. Tom saying that he routinely uses his Daytona while driving/racing.

I'm sure he'll check in soon, though.

Yeah, but he also said that he sometimes texts while racing too.

Tom is a prudent man to be sure, but I'm betting he could pull it off, if he wanted to.

That dial can't take any more stuff. It's too cluttered and difficult to read as is.

If I had to guess, I'd say the issue is volume/scale. While Rolex could no doubt design high complications like perpetual calendars, producing them at the high volumes that Rolex customers want and then servicing them in the future would probably strain resources.
