Similarly, I had desperately wanted to get an AP to complete my Holy Trinity so was obviously in the market for a Royal Oak. I tried on the 15400 and 15300 and liked both. But, not wanting to skimp on money and have regrets later, I decided I wanted the 15202 (sight get unseen). After talking to a few AD's, I was also distressed about the challenge in finding the Jumbo. I ended up buying Fromm David SW here for a great price and had my dream watch in no time. Despite the lack of second hand and screw-in crown, I find this watch abundantly more interesting than the others based on the ultra-thin movement, micro-patisserie dial and heritage. The money is different indeed but if you can make the money work, go for the jumbo, you won't regret it.

as many members here have in the past, i'm sure, i recently went thru the same dilemma of 15400 vs 15202. i posted a thread about it here. now a few months of having decide on the jumbo, i am absolutely thrilled (and relieved) of having made the choice.
my situation may be a bit different in that i was also in the process of purging all my 'big' watches. and i do believe that after awhile, the 15400 would've been on its way out to make room (and $) for a more 'traditional' piece. i've slowed down on new acquisitions, somewhat. but what i'm finding of myself if that i've become highly selective of those brands/models that will endure the test of time. not here to debate whether or not the 15400 would as well...i concede that is a personal/subjective POV. but for me, i'm confident that the jumbo will be a piece that will stay with me until i'm ready to pass it on to my kids. ps - 15450 in SS may feel small, but may i recommend u try it on the YG blue dial. the weight of it may change ur mind significantly, especially given you appear to be enamored with the RG jumbo. |
