Talking about times tough in the ME....I was booked on Malaysia in F, some VIP/Govt group got me bumped. I was offered Eco with full refund, or flight next day with hotel etc comped. I made a fuss. A big fuss. In LHR T4 check in. Loudly, as a Oneworld Emerald member. Result was I flew on Qatar J on new A350 (v nice aircraft, that's what swayed it for me, to check it out) to Doha and F to BKK on A380 with a delay. This was a month before the UAE/Saudi embargo. Times may be tough but the F lounge in Doha is ridiculous. The J lounge is bigger than many entire airports. There's a damn internal train through the terminal. They bring you watches from the Rolex boutique to the F lounge to look at on request.
On the subject of recycling champagne though I can add that Qatar pour it straight down the drain. In the A380 bar they had Brut and Rose bottles in ice buckets. Mid range, can't remember the brand, maybe Perrier Jouet? Just ice buckets. No water. I mentioned that, hey, you need to add water to those buckets to chill the champs, it's what acts as a conductor and chills the champs. Bar dolly looks on blankly. I shrug and sit down. CSD appears, asks is everything OK etc, blah.....I mention it again. She agrees. Pours the two bottles away, takes two from fridge/chiller and puts in buckets with ice/water. |
