Does replacing bezel on Submariner hurt value?

If you want to replace a damaged bezel on your submariner will that hurt that value of watch? Thanks in advance.

Not sure if you mean the bezel assembly or the insert....but the answer is most likely no unless it's vintage (in which case just keep the parts and you wouldn't have issues replacing it down the line).

Sorry for the confusion my friend.

Yes , I meant the bezel insert. I ordered a pre owned Rolex submariner from an authorized dealer. Upon arrival I noticed that the bezel was slightly scratched so I sent it back. They assured me that they would replace the bezel insert.

My question was will their replacement of the bezel insert hurt the value of the watch?

Thanks.

What year/model is the Sub? If it is a 5 digit reference you should be OK. Vintage models an original MKI II or III insert can be crazy money and would affect resale considerably as to replace it with a time period correct insert, it would cost $1-4K depending on the condition.

Yeah if it's a 5 digit sub or newer, wouldn't be an issue @ all assuming the seller is replacing with an authentic Rolex insert. If it's 4 digit....all bets are off, many variations on the sub inserts that go for various premiums like droptopman indicated.

On a related note, I was wondering when I service my ceramic GMT, is the correct thing to ask RSC to not replace the dial, hands, bezel, etc?

I get that this is a brand new model and this consideration is important for older watches, but at some point my watch will become vintage. I also get that all the new upgrades make the watch seem not likely to show age anyway.

But it's just something I'm wondering. If I keep this same watch for decades, what kind of things should I be mindful of when servicing?

It can hurt value. Replacement inserts are easy to spot (e.g. thin font) and some original inserts are looking great (fat font and some fading). If it's a simple 16610, it doesn't matter much though...

So, replacing an insert on a 1680 all original Red Sub won't hurt value. Doubt it.

He sent me a PM it is an A serial 14060. Should be fine with a genuine service replacement.
