Idea of Polishing AP ROO Chrono before Servicing

Guys,

My new ROO Safari is almost 1 year old now and developing quite number of scratches....

To be honest, theyre annoying me to some degree....

Thats why, been thinking to have it polished (by APSC of course) eventhough its not yet the service time....

What do you think about the idea Guys?

Personally I would leave it alone as it looks fine to me. Wait for your first service and then take care of it if it bothers you that much.

Except for the scratch at 5 o'clock on the bezel I had to pinch and zoom to "really" see any marks. I think the watch looks pretty good.

I'm one that notices those marks on my own watches, so I know how "painful" they can be...it's also kinda painful to see an over-polished watch too, especially AP.

I would encourage you to hold off until service.

i would leave it. Now wear it hard until service time with out any worry, as it already has a few scratches (which don't even look that bad to me) and then have APSC do a polish. 1 year is way, way too soon. At that rate you won't have any case left in 6 or 7 years.

Im not in the "no polish" camp either. I will have mine done after several years so its the time frame i would have an issue with, not that you want a polish.

I'd wait but I get you want it looking its best so as you can have up to 4/5 AP polishes you can go ahead, but then do be careful afterwards and wear in rotation.

I would leave it. I could barely see any marks on your watch. I had a Diver I wore as a daily beater that I sent into AP Clearwater for a warranty service and refinish, and it came back looking as good as new. I would wait, because you can only polish it so many times, and I wouldn't use up one of those considering the watch is still in such good condition.

Will they even polish it without a service?

Yes, you can drop it off to a AP service center and have it polished without a service.

I wouldn't, it looks great. Scratches are like wrinkles, they add character makes the piece more interresting.

Any idea the cost of this? I paid $200 for mine while in service, but, surely they have to charge more if it's not already being disassembled.

Just looked at the pricelist. Here in sweden it's 1,7x the price to have it just polished compared to the additional polish cost when having it serviced.

Leave it like this!
Have time for more scratch!
I see you don't like scratch on your watch and no one like but if you like AP it's a must to can live with them or buy a limited edition who have bezel from different material!

Don't do it! Scratches are ok. They add character. I would only do it at regular service intervals especially on an AP.

Don't touch it, my Pateks have small hairlines on the bezel, I don't mind them, imagine if'youndo one after only one year, basically you'll do one per year, so in 5 years you'll have to change the bezel, leave it alone or get one with ceramic bezel...

The watch is a scratch magnet to begin with, you will have it polished and then scratched again in no time. That is just the nature of the ROO, like everyone else said, leave it alone.

Your watch looks fine. If you are worried about scratches, the RO may not be for you.

I agree with everyone else. Wear it, enjoy it, and collect more scratches until it needs a service and then polish it.

I wouldn't do it. I was talking to the guy who polishes watches during a recent tour of AP and he said that you can polish an AP a maximum of 5 times (generally) and, as others have said, you'll collect more scratches shortly after polishing. It will look great right after the first polish and you'll be tempted to rush into another polish too soon again.

Keep it as is and enjoy it. Consider yourself lucky that you don't have it on a bracelet, haha.

Don't do it, you can only do it ~5-6 times as every polish is removing a little bit of metal.

For the prices, the web site states these different prices:

in Audemars Piguet's Geneva boutique Prices in CHF, taxes excluded

WATCH CASE WITH BRACELET // 300.-
WATCH CASE ONLY (AND BUCKLE) // 200.-
PART ONLY // 100.-

For these, unless there is a ding that really looks deep on the edge, I tend to wait until something really big happens to have them do a polish. Your's is in pretty good shape!

At that rate the watch will be unpolishable and not worth much after 5 or 6 years.

Personally I would preserve the metal (and value). But if you plan to replace it and the money doesn't bother you, why not I'm sure it's nice to get to wear a perfectly polished watch all the time.

I don't think I would ever polish a watch entirely. If I hit it against something ans made a nice size ding I would probably have that removed but when it comes to hairlines and minor wear I would never bother.
