I was having a bit of trouble rotating the bezel on my S-series Submariner so I decided to take off the bezel and see if all the parts are OK i.e. no grit blocking the rotation. However when I tried to put it back together I had a hard time fitting the small spring with the external part and so I decided to just keep them all in a separate plastic case.

And now I present to you the bezel-less Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now) style Submariner.

It feels great: very elemental feeling, ready to go off into the proverbial Vietnam jungle and live off my senses ;]

Beware - the crystal is now more vulnerable as it's more exposed. I would be trying to fit that bezel back on asap.

I have done similar activities in the past taking things apart that I can't get back together. Lesson learned as I do not attempt anymore. I feel your pain.

I recently restored the bezel click function on my GMT2 and it was a simple job but took a light touch to get the spring in place. Every time I got it set the spring would fall off as I took my finger off it. I also had to give the spring a little more curve, plus I bent the end upwards slightly to get it to engage the bezel properly.

The steps are simple and straightforward, but it takes a deft touch. Tucking the spring into the groove on the watch casing and holding it in place with a toothpick let me remove my finger from the spring without it falling away.

I hope you have plans to have the bezel replaced ASAP. Sorry, just looks like a "broken" watch without the bezel.
