25-t39 service Crystal reshape
Hi. I tried to search but did not find anything. But I was wondering, is it possible to shave / reshape the service 25-t39 crystal to a t39 superdome?
Has anyone tried this before? It is for a drsd. |

I'm not sure what the service T39 looks like, but thinking about the task at hand: Are you sure you have enough material to achieve the desired shape ? You will be thinning (weakening) the crystal in some areas, unevenly. Reshaping the outside without reshaping the inside accordingly will give you a lot of funny distortions. Like I said, there are aftermarket superdomes apparently. I would go with one of those. There's no point in having an original crystal if you're going to modify it anyway. There's nothing "magic" in Rolex plastics... Just my opinion, would love to hear other's. |

I wouldn't go "aftermarket". Man, I'd use a genuine Rolex service dome and keep it moving. I think a service dome looks great. I would argue the optics make the dial look amazing, and it is the safe thing to do to preserve the water resistance and protect these amazing vintage dials. Save the vintage parts if you want for a later resale. When I read what you guys go through to keep a superdome...using aftermarket from MY...suspect "NOS" crystals in little brown packages...it just seems like a recipe for possible disaster.

Thanks for the reply guys. I had a NOS unused t39 superdome installed earlier but it started to crack along the retainer ring. And i have now a service t39.
There is alot of difference, the service t39 has a higher edge and has not the dome effect. |
