Scientists find gold worth $2 million in Swiss sewage

Quote:
The researchers believe the tiny flecks of gold flow into the waste water system from the country's famed watchmaking industry and gold refineries.
Interesting!

interesting... meanwhile in London all they found in the sewer was a huge fatberg.

And they want to put it in a museum. So its pretty epic

Another click bait headline from the home of dodgy news. Estimating 95 pounds of gold flows through the sewer system every year is VERY different to "Finding gold worth $2m", but its an interesting story regardless.

One would think that these companies would have implemented a recovery system for precious metals. Back in the heyday of traditional film processing, Eastman Kodak had a silver recovery system.

That's exactly what crossed my mind after reading the article. If they do it clearly isn't working to it's full potential, one would think.

I'd not believe it. Gold and silversmiths sink drains have traps on them to catch everything coming off the hands. They send all their findings, filings, residue from sanding, the drain filters, even their buffing wheels go to the assayers.

I agree, I was wondering why they are not trying to recover it.
