F.P or Lange
I am looking to buy a milestone piece for myself and I have it narrowed down to two options.
Currently for dress watches I have a stainless JLC master ultra thin moon REF. 1368420 & a Cartier Ronde Louis Cartier REF: WGRN0006. I really love both of these watches and have tried on both in person. I can't seem to talk myself out of either. Maybe some of you have a little knowledge and history with either of these great pieces that can help me make up my mind. Lange 1815 annual calendar F.P. Journe Chronometre Souverain Thanks |

I prefer the Journe. Truth be told, I don’t think I would buy either of them if I were looking for a watch in that price point.

Of the two i would get the FPJ, as the annual calendar is a bit busy for me. If it was the 1815 Chrono, then Lange by a mile.
I really can't get on board with a manual wind annual calendar. Plus i don't even think it has a power reserve indicator, and resetting it all the time would be a hassle. My least favorite thing to do is to reset the moon phase on my 5712 as i can't stand it when its not accurate. I keep it on a winder because of this and its only a date and moon phase. Not an option with the Lange.

I really like the Lange 1 but the moon phase would also be a pain to reset, but the up down indicator on that one helps though. I would get the Lange 1 MP before the 1815 AC as i think its much more unique looking and less cluttered.

Not really a fan of these exact models. My preference for your budget would be the new Lange 1 Moon Phase in white gold/ black dial. The asymmetrical dial layout with that breathtaking day/night disc which is separate from the moon disc and the iconic Lange outsize date is the stuff dreams(mine?) are made of!
That being said, if i had to choose between the two models you've posted id certainly go with the Lange. All Journe designs seem a bit cartoonish to me. Also, movement and overall finishing on a lange beats a Journe any day (my personal observation). I'm posting wrist shots of the Journe you are interested in and the Lange 1 MP. |

Thanks for the comments and ideas, gang. I have contacted my AD and I am going with a Lange 1 MP in white gold with the black dial and couldn't be more excited
I go to pick it up on Saturday. Pictures to follow. |

I was looking into Lange, when I found the FP Journe Octa Automatique Lune, a stunning watch and then I saw the gold movement, I decided FP Journe it is.

The new MP is a true winner with that day/night moonphase upgrade. It's these little improvements and the constant desire to do things better that I love about Lange. Although I must say Journe's genius with gold dials and gold movements also has me drooling. |

Personally I would choose the Lange between the two. More complicated and IMO, you can't beat the Lange finishing

Lange for sure, I was going to say bite the bullet and just go for the Zeitwerk but I see sanity prevailed. CIA.

So happy about your choice! The new L1 MP with black dial is simply stunning and right at the top of my list as a leather strap watch that can easily be worn as a daily (i.e. not a pure dress watch).
Can't wait to see pics. Congrats!

In theory I’m all about fpj. I looked at a chronometre Blue and fell in love with the movement. Then I tried it on. I wasn’t in love with the thickness of the strap and the way it mates with the watch.
I much prefer my lange 1. YMMV |
