That’s a special moment for sure. I have my great grandfather’s Elgin pocket watch from 1918 and will pass it on to the next generation eventually.

A watch is worn on your very person close to the skin, through good times & bad, day & night, it has tracked the momentous points of a life.

Yes, it's just an object, but if we are to imbue any object with some meaning greater than itself, then I tend to think a watch is as good a pick as any.

Clothes are binned. Cars are scrapped. Houses are sold.

I can't think of anything more personal. That's why I purposely bought my Submariner (first & only Rolex) to wear when I held my daughter in the delivery room (using the timing bezel to measure contractions & medication intervals!).

Few items can mean as much as a watch, or a ring, or a rosary that an ancestor cherished and used daily for many decades. I hope your kids enjoy long and happy lives to value these keepsakes and pass on to their own offspring with the inevitable family stories that make such heirlooms meaningful.
