Actual history of Rolex warranty

Hello everyone,

I am a new rolex collector and I am trying to understand some basic concepts.

From what I understood the warranty normally guarantees a price premium to the watch of 20 to 30%.

But there are many fake out except the punched warranty that are the only reliable on the market.

When did punched warranty begin year? Million?

Before that I have seen typed warranty are those reliable ?

Thanks for the info

Marco

You would want more than just punched in order to trust papers. Preferably you would want box, manuals and original receipt. There really isn’t a standard answer to your question. Really down to each case I would say.

As for premiums I would say it is depending on the watch. What ref and almost always most important; condition of the watch. As a collector papers is a bonus when buying a watch. Nothing more.

It's tough these days in reality...a lot of doctored provenance out there including faked punched papers...original sales receipt/first owner is the only sure way it feels like.

Rolex warranty , B&P are a pretty good base point . But for real authentication ,you can't beat taking the watch to a AD or RSC to guarantee it's the genuine article .

For a conventional watch of some age, like a DJ, explorer, GMT, Box and papers at about 10% value.

For Subs and Daytona? I have noticed 20 % and more at least in Europe.

Nope, not subs or Daytona’s. Conventional, like DJs, explorers, GMTs etc, with moderate age.

Maybe this might help a little, I purchased a Roman Dial Oyster in 1968 and it came with a box, Certificate (Punched on very heavy paper) and the Manual with a nice green folder. S/N is 1,6XX,XXX.

Like actual watches, fake papers can be caught. Tons of discussion/pointers online, here and over on VRF. I’m not saying it’s easy, but there are ways to make sure you’re getting real papers. Like anything else, do tons of research.
