Crown Question (no not logo being centered)

Hello, first post here, but have been a long time viewer and enjoy the content and people's vast knowledge here very much. I am new to "high end" watches and just was wondering what is normal to feel when unscrewing the crown on a submariner. As compared to unscrewing a seiko skx for example, the rolex seems to have much more pressure/resistance when doing so. Is this normal? I know it is hard to put into words what i am trying to describe but if anyone understands what I'm attempting to ask i would appreciate it.

Pressure unscrewing is directly related to that screwing the crown in. Gorilla tight means it will be really difficult to unscrew. I don't tighten mine too much.

I don't mean the literal difficulty of unscrewing due to tightness, i simply mean the general more stiff tolerances and feel of unscrewing the crown compared to previous (less expensive) watches I've handed

Mine feels stiffer than others....so she said when she tried it.

My sub crown i mean!! I just tried it as it's what I have on today. Feels stiffer than my other watches, rolex and non-rolex. I just compared it after reading your post. Don't know why it's like that, but I wouldn't worry. Maybe one of the pros can chime in.

I have both watches.

Your sub has a exterior gasket which can make it feel like there's resistance. When it gets easier, the gasket is on its way out. Beyond that, the tighter you tighten it, the harder it is to open.

A seiko skx has no exterior gasket but it is harder to unscrew if you tighten it hard. It's a simpler design but it works.

I also experienced that feel with my Rolex watches. Crowns seem heavier when unscrewing compared to affordable divers where the crown feels lighter and kind of floating when unscrewing. It's as if you need to apply more torque due to the spring on the stem being more loaded or stiffer in Rolex sports watches.

Sounds normal to me.....my Sub is fairly stiff to unscrew till it’s off the thread so I can wind it....mine has just been for a service at RSC, so it’s defo normal for yours to be as it is
