fake serial number?

I just bought a Datejust(?) men's two tone Rolex from US Jewelry Liquidation auction. I am very suspicious of the watch. I can't find a serial number like this anywhere on the internet. It is 56176932. I took the band off the 6:00 end and verified the number. Could this be a real serial number?

What’s the age of the watch? The serial # you mention is a total of eight digits. The current random serial numbers consist of a total eight digits and or letters in no particular order. Maybe yours is a random serial with all numbers and no letters. However, Rolex watches with random serial numbers should not have the serial number under the bracelet on the watch case between the lugs at the 6 o’clock position. The serial number would be located just under the crystal next to the dial at the 6 o’clock position. I’m suspect of the watches authenticity if yours is between the lugs.

I don't think Rolex serial numbers ever got to the 8-digit length. If the watch were fairly recent it would be a random serial number with numbers and alpha characters, or with a leading alpha character and numbers.

The number may be an inventory number from the auction. Best to post a pic.

8 digit random serial numbers started in 2010 and are on the rehaut at 6.
They are completely random and can consist numbers/letters or a mix!

The last current known serial numbering on BOTH rehaut and between lugs is 2008 (7 digit serial number starting "V")

Even if serial number is between lugs it should also say "Stainless Steel"

Something mighty strange!

I hope these work. I believe they changed the face from the original to blue and added diamonds.

The watch band seems loose, light and a little sloppy. It kinda shows in the first picture. The gap on the band at 12:00 is bigger than the one at 6:00.

The dial is not rolex original. The watch might be real, I would lean towards real. Don’t know enough about the band bezel and clasp to comment. If it were me I would open the case back and take a look.

Watch in pics is real. Might be aftermarket dial?
Band looks real.

I don't get it. You post that the watch serial number is 56176932 and yet the photo shows 5614456?

Are you posting the correct pics? Is this even your watch?

Watch serial numbers date to 1978/79.
I suspect the OP only had the first digits?

Bracelet is N10 for 1989 (Oct)
So I suspect its a replacement bracelet too.

Thanks

I posted the wrong serial number. The number I posted is for another watch I'm looking at, sorry. The picture is correct. I thought that they didn't have that many digits in the '70s.
