Apple displays have always been behind. They still are as Samsung is supplying the Apple iPhone x with Samsungs last gen screen. I got a chance to demo the iPhone X early. It’s good but not good enough to take on the Note 8 IMO. It’s playing follow the leader too much and where it try’s to brake away, it isn’t what people want (like no home button). One of Apple’s common critique in the industry lately is their marketing has over shadowed their actual product.
Perhaps Apple will stop following and try to make a techinical leap ahead with the next gen iPhone.
The Note 8 is the top screen currently available on any device. It’s brightness is in its own league with a huge “wow” factor. I had a iPhone 7 Plus and a Galaxy S7 Edge this past year. The new iPhone x is similar to the Galaxy S7 screen. It’s s ignificantly better than the last 7 plus screen but not close to what the new Note 8 is using now. I use both Apple and Android equipment at home and work. As much as I would like to be Apple centric , I can’t with their phones. The Note 8 with the S-pen is a beast for serious graphic work (I do a lot) and everything else isn’t working the phone at all. However you go, you are spending $1k for the top phones from now on.

Apple has always been behind? What exactly was Samsung and every other phone manufacturer doing in 07 when the iPhone came out? They were figuring out how to copy the same tech that you see from them now. Amazing how soon people forget. Apple has an ecosystem that is unmatched by any other company. Making hardware that runs other people’s software just can’t and never will be as seamless, reliable, stable or yield the user experience that Apple does who makes both.

Moving on...There are phenominal cameras out there and now having one of them along with everything else that apple brings is just bliss.

Enjoy all!

Sounds like you know a good bit. How do you think the Samsung panel technology stacks up to LG’s panels?

I’ve only taken a few shots, but the X is an amazing leap forward... Definitely impressed with this camera.

Here’s the standard lens at 1x:

And the zoom at 2x:

The quality the cameras in the top phones have me leaving my pro cameras at home even on some work assignments where quality photos are required. Now I don’t look so conspicuous taking pictures of my wrist with a big camera in public.

Interested to see where the X falls. My brother has the pixel 2 and the shots I've seen from that thing are absolutely incredible.

DxOmark should have an X review up soon.

Apple definitely led for years with their phone cameras, but all flagships have been great or better the last few years.

Damn.

Seems amazing from what I've seen so far. That optical zoom is the game changer.

The next few years are going to be very interesting.

Great shots - I keep debating if I want the X for the camera or hold onto the 6S. I had two come in Friday, went to the Apple store to play with the demo units first, and just not sure it felt like $1200 to me. Ended up selling them and will re-evaluate.

I just made that exact upgrade from the 6s to the X. The camera of course is better, but even more impressive is that OLED screen. True black levels are nice to have. But being in your shoes, and debating myself prior to purchase the value of the X, the biggest upgrade you'll probably notice is the processor speed above all else.

Looking forward to an X after things calm down a bit. Camera phones have certainly cone a long way.

Photography is a hobby of mine. It's all about the light.

This pro used a Big Mac box as a soft box and took some amazing portraits with an iPhone.

You can do some pretty cool photo and video edits with the iPhone X, combined with iOS High Sierra

A couple from my iPhone X, both unedited. It's slightly better than the iPhone 7 Plus, but the difference is really minor IMO.

Great shots. Were you using your macro lens? I think the macro and a little time making sure they are in sharp focus would yield much better still. I find most people don't even know about the macro feature and just zoom in. Happy experimenting!

Well I can tell you Tapatalk reduced the quality of the pictures quite significantly... Now that I see my post on the computer. On the phone they look so much shaper.

You’re right, my photos were needing to be downsized signifantly in file size to meet the upload maximums. The photos are considerably better than represented, which is already impressive. I’m sure this would hold true of any high quality camera however

Apple tip: “Affinity Photo” for iOS mobile devices is as pro of a editing software my company can find for our Apple devices. It will be the best $20 you can spend at the App Store if you really want to see what the iPhone/iPads can do with photo editing on the devices. I use it regularly on my iPad Pro.
