As We See Empty Display Cases and Hear of Delayed Deliveries....

...most of us here should perhaps enjoy what we have and be thankful for it. I'm sorry for those who are awaiting their first Rolex, but most here have at least one, and in some cases, many more than one. With Rolex shipments dwindling at the moment, maybe this is a time to appreciate the bounty we already have and perhaps even step back from the empty display case and take a deep breath.

OK, I admit this could get ugly, but there, I said it.

Thankfully I'm very happy with the one I got just a few months ago. It was a real pain finding it but I did, eventually.

AD’s in the U.K. are still getting watches coming in and going to people who have their names on the list. I know that in the last 2 months AD’s have received Sub’s, BLNR’s, Hulk’s and Daytona’s and are “assigned” to buyers.
AD that I got my Hulk from have received 2 in a matter of weeks as I saw the first one in person and then brought the second one they got in

You might want to sell some of those awesome watches you have, to aid in the misery.

Even at list price in Oz I would have to convince myself that the Daytona C was worth any more than the retail price of my 'old' SS Daytona.

There is no shortage in stock. If you were the right customer for the AD or were willing to pay the Grey Market price you can have any watch you want and as many as you want. The shortages that get played up are part of the marketing for the brands, Rolex, PP, etc. Sure, individual AD's will not have a specific model, Daytona-C, Hulk, BLNR but they do get the watches. The harder conversation is the one where the AD tells you that you can not buy a certain watch because you are not a good enough customer and have not spent enough money with them. Hard to hear for most and not a good practice for AD's trying to keep your business. So the story of Rolex or whoever, not shipping or making a certain watch is a better sell. Any shortage is a manufacture issue that can be corrected by the company in a period of time if so desired. But they don't want to do it and drive a false hype, in my opinion. Would it not be nice to have the money for a watch and go to your AD and buy the watch you desire? But due to inflated prices, discounting, cross referencing the Grey Market, the watch industry is destroying itself from within.

Agreed.

The rank inefficiency of ADs paying staff and rent with nothing to sell, so they earn the right to get a few hard to find pieces they can sell with a phone call amazes me. ...but that’s part of what contributes to the allure and convinces people to pay 4-8x the cost of production for something

I am on various wait lists for watches that I want. I for one do not mind waiting as it gives me something to look forward to. Having said that I have a good relationship with my AD so I know I will be receiving these watches within a reasonable time frame. I also do not need to be first on every list as I enjoy receiving my watches over a period of time.

Good excuse to check out other brands, esp higher up the food chain, as prices are getting scarily similar.

Always good to admire something nice you have. The scarcity might make them more desirable.

I contacted my grey seller shop today and again, they apologized for the delay and said they were trying hard to source the watch from an AD. This is in the UK. THREE months for a SubC.

Four days left before I cancel it and totally give up. After my experience with the ADs and now this GS, I'm done with the brand. This probably sounds weird to most users here, but the $ that was already allocated for the Rolex is going to end up with a totally different use. Speculative investments that might crash to zero or return enough to buy multiple watches in a couple of years.

Very disappointing/unpleasant experience in general while tryign to get the first Rolex. Waiting years to buy something and then it is if as you have to beg shops to sell it to you.

Screw you, SubC. I'm tired of you and your games.
