Leonardo da Vinci painting 'Salvator Mundi'
Sold for a record $450.3 million after fees and everything. Half a billion for a painting, just crazy. Maybe it's the same buyer that also bought the Paul Newman Daytona.
"After 19 minutes of dueling, with four bidders on the telephone and one in the room, Leonardo da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi” sold on Wednesday night for $450.3 million with fees, shattering the high for any work of art sold at auction." |

Well I will say one thing: it does make $18 million for Paul Newman's Daytona look reasonable...

I'm an Art Fan not an Expert, but I can tell you this is more than just a painting. It's the only Da Vinci held in private hands and Da Vinci represents so much to the art world that it's impossible to fully understand it by anyone imo. Imagine if the Mona Lisa was up for auction one day (impossible), my best guest is that it will be very close to the 1B ballpark, this is the "little brother" of that. Amazing piece!

I agree, it's an amazing piece of art. My coworker and I was talking about how much the Mona Lisa would go for and I said it would probably around 1B.

Or perhaps the Last Supper? Curious what some more modern famous paintings such as Dali's Persistence of Time, El Greco's View of Toledo, or Picasso's Guernica?

Probably nothing, actually. Isn't discussing things other than Rolex allowed in the "Open Discussion" portion of this forum okay?

Bet they'd have gotten a lot more if they'd have had Max work up a commercial.
