Ya, bracelets can be replaced. Luckily they are only about $2,000.

As for not polishing and not overdoing it, I don't think light polishing at home with the pads people have talked about above will do any harm. I think people in general are taking this no polishing thing (to save the metal) a bit too far.

For example, everyday spoons have been washed up to 10 times or more a day for MANY MANY MANY years with scotchbrite pads, and even squeezed and rough washing (to get dried food off, for example), and those spoons won't show any measurable loss of metal at all. And they are thinner than the bracelet links!
Good point! Hadn't thought of that.

Sounds like we're on the right track to get the thing fixed...your watch is in great hands with Rik.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I took it to a well known ad in town and this is what I got back. Something isn’t quite right to my eye. I have a sinking feeling I am going to need to send this off to get corrected. What do you all think? Where should I send it if it needs to be corrected? Do I leave well enough alone?

I instructed them to only do the band and not the watch itself.

Obliviously the wrong grit was used, very sloppy work. I wonder if an employee did it instead of their watch tech. Unfortunately the RSC will no longer do just a case and band polish. Your best bet is to look for another local AD with a Rolex tech on site, show it to them and look at their work as an example. The fix is a very simple. Do not let anyone try one of the home remedies suggested like scotchbrite or steel wool that is not a proper way to refinish a Rolex.

Ouch. I’d pick a bone with that AD for sure. Looking forward to seeing pics when you get it back from being fixed.

Other option is to send to one of the many reputable watchmakers mentioned on this forum.
Am not sure whether the U.K. kitchen Green Scotch cloth is the same but I have have had very good results from one of these but it must be WORN, not brand new or so.
For polishing the bright parts ‘Autosol’ is excellent, applied with a soft lens cloth NOT by using a mechanical rotary wheel a chrome like finish can be achieved.
Some of the ‘polishing’ results I seen on this website by those ‘in the trade’ have been quite horrific IMO.

I wouldn't let anyone touch my hulk except the RSC no matter what I wanted done. In fact, when I was newer I popped in my local watchmaker and enquired about it and he simply said "I can't touch that, it's satin needs specialist"
