Scammers are back...

"This is Rachel from Card Services..."

They're back! The CC scammers who promise to lower your CC rate.

Do you ignore the calls, answer them and get thru to a person and scream obscenities, or toy with them, giving a fake CC #? What do you think is the best course of action?

They spoof phone #'s so it is virtually impossible to block them.

They are getting smart now by using local numbers in your area code. They are also using cell phone prefix's to make it look like it isnt a robo call.

There are devices you can install such as Sentry that will not allow telemarketers calls to reach you.

Tell them you have a very particular set of skills you have acquired over a very long career.
Skills that make you a nightmare for people like them.

These calls are coming from overseas. I’m not sure how Congress could stop that. Sometimes when I have time I mess with them.

As soon as the robocaller start his/her spiel, I hang up, assuming I bother to answer the call at all. I never answer a "Not Available" call.

We only have cell phones and ditched the land lines which helps. I use Mr.Number app on cell phone, which does a pretty good job catching spam and fraud numbers. You can also use it to block numbers that you know are bogus.

I've taken a completely different approach lately:

I'll act extremely enthused, in example; WOW!!! I'm so glad you're calling, I was actually thinking about this earlier today!!! Tell me more - I'll have the phone on speaker or an earpiece and go about my business until I hear silence... then I'll ask some really really stupid questions - I like to see how long I can go before they realize I'm absolutely messing with them.

You can block numbers from your iPhone too... problem is they have like a gazillion fake numbers that they switch up.

I seldom answer but if I do, I just hang up when they start their spiel. I did have fun stringing one along for a few minutes and then hung up on the caller.

I say that now is not convenient, but if they give me their number I'll call them back. They almost always hang up and none of them ever gave me a number.

I cut my landline a few months ago and had a call blocker on it which worked fairly well.

Now I get probably 5 calls a day on my cell from fake numbers. I decided to create a ringtone for my wife and a few people on my contacts list and let the other stay on my default ringtone. Now when I hear the special ringtone I'll answer the phone and disconnect when I hear the default.

To do this you go into "contacts" (iPhone) and hit the edit button on top of the page and scroll down to ringtone and change from default to the special one you can choose. Or if you like your default tone for your special people, go into sounds and change your default to a quiet non offensive one, and change your special people to the original default one you had.

As for people saying you can block the nuisance callers, it makes no difference because they call from fake numbers which makes no difference if you block them or not.
