Bar talk
I was at my club tonight. It's a private organization. I was wearing my Bark DD 18248. A fellow came up to the bar I noticed his watch immediately a (18038) with an aftermarket diamond bezel. I said nice watch and raised my arm and he said "but mines a Rolex" And I said mine is too. He chuckled and said " yeah" and I said " oh yeah" He was clueless got upset and walked away. I seem to experience this a lot when wearing the bark. My DJ gets compliments all the time but none on the DD though.

What exactly did chuckling and saying "Yeah" mean? that he thought your Rolex was fake? And why did he get upset? He sounds about as intelligent as a drunk turtle.

The fellow was acting quite snobbish, not a gentleman

Sounds like you should look for another club with members like that.

I think part of this is due to a difference in appreciation for the brand. Perhaps you assumed because he was wearing a DD he was aware of its history and its many variations. Whereas as to him it was a Rolex gold watch. An extremely rare symbol of his elite status and beyond his belief that there could ever be two in the same place at once.

I've worked in insurance for a number of years and what started me on my journey of watch appreciation was dealing with individuals looking to insure high value items.
In my experience. The majority of Rolex owners have practically no knowledge to speak of. When ascertaining the particulars of their watches, most people couldn't even tell me the model, often simply calling it a Rolex Oyster. I can only recall two customers who had a good knowledge - those two owning a YG DD and a GMT Master 2. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

He was very arrogant his watch is valued much less than mine I assume and he had acted as though it was the most expensive in the place when there was a fellow wearing an Audemars that probably beat both of our watches out price wise. I don't go by price I go by design. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Some real egos out there for certain especially when it comes to Rolex ownership. I was at a local bar and some guy had an older DJ with an aftermarket diamond dial and bezel. He was so proud of it. I bit my tongue. FWIW, I was at a bar at a club last night, the Smoothie bar at the health/sports Club...

As a watch enthusiast, I get a little excited when I notice a new acquaintance is wearing a nice watch. My first thought when I see that Rolex is always "ooh, let's talk watches!". I've learned that its pretty rare that any of those people know anything about watches or care at all. Usually pretty high odds for misunderstanding when bringing up Rolex with someone you don't know, at least in my experience

clearly he has an arrogant attitude and thinks he and his gold Rolex are really special. Since he's in a smaller city, it may be easier for him to maintain that view than it'd be in a bigger city, where extreme wealth that surpasses his own would be in his face everyday

And you never know who is from Scranton, either

They say you can judge a man by the company he keeps (well most times anyway). May be time to find another club. Me; I am still a firm believer in the Groucho Marx approach to clubs... oh yeah, nice watch.

Didn't take it that way, at all. No worries
Scranton has been a subject of jokes for years. It gets mentioned in old Hope- Crosby and Martin-Lewis films, The Inlaws, etc Of course, The Office ( US) I make fun of Scranton and I was born there Time for a wrist shot too |

Not worth talking watches with someone who owns a Day-Date with no knowledge of its variations. He probably doesn't even know what a Day-Date is.
