Evening All,

I have the possibility of picking up a white SS Sky Dweller in March/April 2018 from a AD local to me in VA for MSRP. All I need to do is put the full amount down, and they've advised they are very likely to be able to source me the watch. Before stating my two questions, I confirm that I have tried on the TT Sky D, which fit like a glove. I tried the TT with a white and black face, and both were equally fabulous. Its a wonderful piece, and I'm looking forward immensely to getting it one day. Its not a watch I plan on selling. Now to my two questions:

1. Should I get the White dial version? I ask because what drew me to the watch was the incredible functionality, but in the blue dial. The watch really is a step up in that color. However, I'll likely be really old and grey before I see an AD with all three versions to show me. As things stand, I like the blue, white and black, in that order. However, that's based off pictures, and watches often look different on the wrist. I feel like I'd take any of the three, but the blue first as that's what first drew me to the watch. I started looking at the white and black when it became apparent that the blue is nigh impossible to get for some time--yes, I'm on a few waiting lists. I do genuinely think the white is stunning. Further, what we are talking about here, no pun intended, is shades of gray. This is important however, as one should buy what one wants. I know that it is the blue version which I'd most like to get despite it being the most difficult to get. My reservation in getting the white is that I don't want any reservations in getting this model, and I cannot compare or try on the different face models.

2. For any white dial owners, why did you buy this version over the blue or black?

I was planning to just buy the white on the basis that I could change dials after five years, and then switch to blue--again, premised on the notion that I can get a white in four months and the blue... well, in 2038. However, I spoke with both the Rolex New York and Dallas service centers on Friday, and both advised that the only watch they would switch dials on post expiration of warranty is the Datejust, and provided the line came with different dials at the time of issue--which the Sky Dweller does (even though this is academic). Now, I know that some of here will assert that one can switch dials on other models through an RSC, and some will have actually successfully done so. However, I can only go of what the RSC is telling me.

So, ladies and gentlemen, what do you think? Buy the gorgeous white dial? Wait a likely 8-12+ months to see both or all three, and then pick the one up that looks best on the wrist?

One thing I'm planning on doing is posting a message on TRF asking if there are any SS Sky Dweller owners in the VA/MD/DC area who would show me their watch over a coffee. Outside of that, there's no way to see one in the flesh.

My initial preference was blue, but I think the white definitely looks more iridescent in person (almost like the dial on a Lange versus the flat white of an Explorer II). I also just purchased another blue dial watch, so this and the availability of white made my choice easy.

I was fake offered a white dial a few days ago (put a deposit down and later told me it is not available). It is my 3rd choice, but I have never seen one in person.
My question is, how does the dealer promise what and when they will get? I am curious. My go to dealer said they ordered the blue one first, but so far only got two black dial. He said he doesn't even know when he will ever blue dial since Rolex doesn't tell him.

The only thing i can say is there is less people asking for white dial, so you may be top on their list. But there is still no guarantee when they will get a white dial.

Before seeing all three together, my preference was black, then white, then blue. After seeing all three at one time I was still leaning towards black as my first choice, but white was gaining ground on black. The white is amazing. It changes from a pure white to a silverish off white color depending on the lighting.

When the opportunity came about to get one, I was willing to take any of the 3 dial colors as they are all unique in their own way. White was what came up first so that is what I have. I love it.

Wait, full amount down?! If you think you prefer the blue, then go with your gut...the watch is a great value for the complication, but is not cheap. Get the white only because you love it, otherwise there might be regret down the road.

Hi Mustang,

I love the watch. Just not so sure on color. Maybe it’s moot, as I would take any. I’ve just never been in a position where I had a choice of dial color.

Since it is going to be a keeper I would not settle for my second choice.
Why the rush, just wait a year or pay a little over retail.
After Basel some other watches will be hot and will increase your chances.

Hello Simon.
You are facing a dilemma that many have, or are facing.
But I would point out that of the three colour dials, you have already described white as stunning and gorgeous. Your mind already craves the White dial. I know pictures are pictures, but who do you trust the most in this world - yes, yourself.
A previous respondent was correct in saying the White dial is irresdescent, pearl like. I thought it was a great dial, but made no sense to me as I'll pick up a white gold Sky-D, when prices drop.
I've just bought the black dial. Mostly because I love black dials and I rather like to stick my fingers up to anyone who buys the most popular dial, even if they Prefer a less popular one.
I also picked up a black dial 500 Daytona.
To my eye, the blue dial is not that great a shade.
Take the White and keep your name on for the black.

I would not pay for the watch before delivery. Wait till after the holidays and see what occurs with inventory and stock items. This is a regular production watch and will be available for years going forward.

Try on the DJ41s, the colours are the same so you can get a very good idea of which is best for you.

I put my name down for Blue the day after Basel. Switched to White in June after seeing all 3 in person at a Basel event with my AD.

It’s a personal choice but for me, the Blue was a little darker than I had imagined and the White just had something special. It goes from flat white to pearl to silver to gray depending on the time of day it seems.

You really can’t go wrong with any of them.

That's a bloody good idea. I'd never thought of that. Finding the blue and white dialed DJs is not that difficult.
