PayPal Question
I've done endless reading about how a seller could be scammed selling a Rolex on PayPal through buyer protection... Seems like that is why most sellers don't accept it.
My question is about someone sending money via friends/family - is that safer for a seller in a F2F? Thanks forum! |

Send under "Gift" or friends and family is still not safe AFAIK. The problem is the sender could be using a fraudulent credit card, and when it gets charged back, the seller is stuck with the loss. I never, ever take Paypal under any circumstances for high-value transactions.

You should probably read the PayPal disclosures, there are no protections sending money like that https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mp...#sending-money

Paypal gift is OK if you mostly trust the buyer and it's for a few hundred bucks. Any more and bank transfer or face only.

I have purchased two watches from trusted sellers using PayPal. I paid the pay pal fees. It was an easy way to stick it on my credit card and not have to fool around getting the money wired.
The key is that both sides have references. Both transactions were seamless. I have two beautiful Subs! A 16610 and a 16613 Serti.

People here always say "buy the seller". Well, you also have to buy the buyer, since a bad buyer can cause you lots of trouble. I've had offers from folks with PP, and I turn them down. But I've also sold watches where I was paid via PP F&F and had no issue because the buyer was a stand-up guy.
I suspect that the F&F funds must be in the account, not via CC. Otherwise, PP would be eating those CC fees, and they certainly aren't going to do you any favors, right? The only real risk then lies in a hijacked account, but if you ship it to the registered address, you limit your risk. To summarize: use your gut. If it (buying, selling) doesn't feel right for any reason, then pass.
