Low or high - loose or tight? What is wrong with this picture?

Hi all.
I'm the proud owner of a new SD43 and, because I'm really loving this watch, have posted a few pictures of it in a few different threads.
This picture has triggered a few opinions on the proper way to wear a wrist watch.

I had one guy tell me it's way too tight and that I should loosen it up a bit. Another member asked how I could possibly wear the watch that low on my wrist. He went through the trouble of drawing me a diagram on the "traditional" placement of a wrist watch. These comments had nothing to do with the thread topics.

I did a quick Google search of "Rolex wrist shots" and see a lot of watches low on the wrist.
So, is there a traditional way to wear your Rolex? Low or high - loose or tight?

Low and tight IMO but all depends on how it feels to you.
If it feels comfortable then I wouldn't worry how other people wear theirs.

That looks too low and too tight for my taste. Like a pirate with a steering wheel sticking out of his fly, that'd be driving me nuts.

When the weekend comes I wear it low and loose and when I am in the office I wear it snug and higher under the shirt cuff.

Wear it how you feel comfortable as you are the only one that matters.

I wear mine just behind the wrist bone with about a pinky finger room of play.

Do you have the divers extension out?

Low and a bit loose everyday but I wear on my right wrist so no trouble with the crown.

Wearing a bracelet loose is a sure way to cause more wear in the bracelet, best is a snug fit just above the wrist bone so you can just get tip of pinky finger under the clasp.

Congrats on the SD...sweet watch.

However, it doesn't look comfortable at all. The crown is digging into the back of your hand and appears to be too tight. But...if you like it like that, that's all that counts.

Just above the wrist bone and snug, not tight, for me

If I wore mine where yours is placed it would interfere with joint movement, place more strain on the bracelet and springbars and the crown would dig uncomfortably into the back of my hand when my wrist was bent.

I have, however, noticed that those of us with slimmer wrists tend to wear their watches more just above the wrist bone, and those of us with "fatter" (for want of a better word) wrists tend to wear thei watches lower down, nearer the hand and over the the actual joint itself.

I suspect wrist shape and fleshieness and hence comfort are more relevant than what is percieved to be wright or wrong?

No, I have not taken out the divers extension. What is the benifit of this?

I tend to wear my watches snug, as I find it uncomfortable moving around on my wrist. Funny thing is, if I loosen it up, it ends up low on the wrist.

Looks a bit low to me as well; however, what matters most is how it feels on your wrist.

Personally, I prefer my watches a bit on the “snug” side.

i have 8 in wrists and wear mine pinky loose above the wrist bone. It does look a bit low on the wrist, ouch.

It is your watch wear it the way it is most comfortable for you, not the way someone else says that it should be worn.

Looks tight to me. That crown is going to start digging in to the back of your hand.

I think the picture I posted really distorts how comfortable the watch is. For this picture I have my fist clenched and wrist bowed up slightly. I've been wearing the watch daily for over a week and it's very comfortable.

You definitely need to remove the extension. It'll allow the bracelet to "wrap" around your wrist.
Definitely looks tight and uncomfortable. I removed the extension on mine after initially wearing it with it, it may a huge difference WRT comfort.

I’ve never understood how wearing a bracelet “too loose” can cause more wear. Even if it does, it would be in such small amounts that over the normal course of ownership I can’t imagine it would be a problem.

I’d rather have something too loose than too tight.

There is a “right” way to wear a watch (Peter’s method above,) but that doesn’t meant that one has to do it. It’s like sagging jeans isn’t the “right” way to wear pants.

I was simply commenting the other day that this wrist sag has become popular enough that I think it’s leading to larger watches (like baggier jeans in the 90s,) since watches look smaller down near the hand.

I wear my pt. Daytona relatively tight (can just squeeze pinky under clasp) and above the bone, because it's heavy and would slide around too much for me. I wear my old DJ much looser, primarily because it's stretched over the years, and I have already taken out a couple of links and don't want to take out a third. Not a great reason, but there ya go.

This is the proper placement of a watch. If you can't move your wrist around the way it was meant to move, then you're wearing the watch wrong...and it looks like crap to boot. Makes it look like the wrist of an obese individual, even if one is fit.

High and tight, though not too tight. :-)

My watch (despite any pleasure I take from its appearance) is a tool and, like any other EDC implement, should always be in precisely the same position. For that reason, as well as basic comfort requirements, I don't ever want it to move once it's secured for the day. It sits above my wristbone, laterally centered on my arm, and sufficiently elbow-ward that no flexure of my wrist can result in the back of my hand contacting the crown.

How's that for specific? :-) Honestly, I just put it on without a thought. I've been doing it in exactly the same way almost daily for nearly 50 years at this point, so no cogitation is required.
