Thinking of a Skydweller

TRF,

I have blue omega seamaster currently and am about to get my first Rolex. I have decided on the Skydweller because I really like the looks and complication of the watch. I am thinking that I like the Black Skydweller and my question is should I go for the the SS or TT model. The watch would be for daily wear with business clothes. My AD doesn’t have a SD in stock (no surprise), so I will be getting on the list.

What are your thoughts on the Black SS bs TT?

Regards,

NB

TT Sky D (both black & white) looks more elegant than their SS counterparts

I’m old and, even to me, two tone watches look oldish. My preference is all yellow gold or all stainless. I do make an exception for my DateJust with the white gold bezel.

just a matter of preference. I personally don't care much for TT. If you like the TT more than grab it!

TT is not for me, but it is personal preference.

Echoing the "preference" comments. TT and YG are completely not my thing, but it's not my money being spent here.

the first sky-dweller I saw in person is a TT Black dial sky dweller. It is beautiful. That was when I know I definitely want to get a Sky-Dweller, either a blue or black dial in stainless/white gold. You can't go wrong with either, but you will probably have better luck with getting the two tone. Unless you have a good relationship with a dealer, you will be expecting to wait up to a year or more for any stainless. OR the other option is paying a few thousand more for one from a grey seller.

The TT does seem a little more “dressy”. I am 32yo and I can’t say that I have seen any of my contemporaries wearing a TT Rolex. Not that I really care. The TT is about 4K more than I could set aside for the next Rolex on the bucket list. If I had a 30k budget then it would open up different options like the WG. Is the TT too “old” ? It’s sorta hard to tell without seeing both. My thinking is that the SS with white gold bezel is gonna be pretty flashy as is. Hard to say.

Anyone have some wrist pics of either one? It’s a strange thing to order a watch of which you have only seen pictures online.

TT Rolex watches are beautiful but to honest just get what you want. If you like TT then get it.

I think the second Rolex is gonna be a Hulk. If you have a sky D, then you don’t really “need” a BLNR

Got both. I personally have started warming to the TT's. Get the one that makes your heart flutter.

Not a TT for me, though that's the one you're more likely to get quickly (my AD had one last time I was there if you're interested).

SS was really nice in black when I tried it on.

Since I have never seen a Sky D in person, which model would give me the best comparison? Datejust 41?

Unless you have patience or connection it’s hard to get SS. Option is to pay a flipper or buy gold.
I would have liked to get SS blue, black and white were not my choices

Full gold isn’t in my millennial budget. At least not yet anyway

I am loving the TT wrist shots. I think it gonna look very nice with a good blue suit.

Is there any hope the AD will discount a watch that is on waitlist? Seems unlikely

I got mine by chance, sales rep took out the watch from proverbial safe after we had a bit of conversation and I basically told him I am only looking for skyD, another place had white and champagne dial available but I wanted black.
I think you might be able to work something if the watch is in stock.

It is not a small watch so try it on before you buy
Good luck

I’m 31 and I don’t feel old. It’s sporty yet dressy high-complication watch.

Go with your heart, ignore the haters.

Thanks for the advice. I wear a size 9 glove so my thoughts are that the Sky D is gonna look awesome.

My wrist a bit on skinny side, 6.5-6.7”. Any smaller, I won’t want to be caught dead wearing this.

The T/T versions are not as in demand as the SS/WG. Start calling ADs in your area and you should find one available and maybe even get a discount.

Happy hunting.
