Is This Submariner Worth the Price?

Hi

Debating on buying a 16610 Submariner with Date from 2009 with box and papers for £6250. Apparently it has the engraved Rehaut and is a V serial if that makes any difference?

Look forward to your advise.

Many Thanks

Daniel

That’s list for a new ceramic one, so I’d say it was expensive.
However this is a sign of how the market is just now.

I have a 2010 V9— serial 16610 complete set. That is the going price now. If it’s mint condition then I’d say go for it. No bracelet stretch, no excessive polishing and keeping time within COSC specs. Only accept if in Mint, like new condition for that price though.

For £6250 you could almost afford to fly to the Bahamas and buy a new 116610 for £5800 out the door with money left for a few rum cakes

I think you've really got to want a 5 digit SS sub now, to buy one at current prices. There are still a few lower priced ones kicking about if you're looking for a daily beater.

They will probably drop a bit when the SubC becomes more available again ? Maybe ?

I'd find it difficult to pay that much for 5 digit tbh . . I have recently paid same for a 4 digit but that's vintage.

I think I would end up getting a SubC and enjoying all the fantastic improvements. .... probably

Buying from an online retailer so not sure about the bracelet being stretched.

Have attached some images let me know what you think.

Is this what you call a mint condition? Does it look too polished?

I’m not a fan of the maxi-case, so yes in as new condition I would rather have the 5 digit model. The price is the price.

As you are buying from an online retailer, most will give you 14 days to return the watch, just don't remove there tags otherwise they will not accept the return.

5 digit model refers to the watch that you posted (16610) vs the newer Subs that are referred to as 6 digit models (116610). The 6 digit subs have the maxi case which have wider lugs.

If that’s what you want and can afford go for it. Personally that seems extremely expensive. An ok price would paying that in USD.

Again maybe that’s what the market says and I am off base.

Pics look good to me. If you prefer 5 over 6 digit then go for it as long as you trust the seller ... universal TRF advise: “buy the seller not the watch”

Search the RolexForums and I bet you can find a better deal from a trusted seller here. You should be patient and enjoy the hunt for a good deal. Check WatchRecon.com.

You can find a better price than $8700 US.

Problem is you're in the UK. I hear you can finding nothing there. Dude, you gotta jump on a plane and shop for one in North America. I'm almost tempted to buy a brand new one here, going to London, and selling it for double. From the looks of it, I'll get it too.

As mentioned you have 14 days to return watch. Make sure the seller arranges courier with their insurance if returning. Check the time over 24 hours and make sure it’s within standards. Where was the Sub originally purchased. I’d want a code 160 for that price.

I have looked at other websites like chrono24 for the same age model and prices are marginally less but you have the hassle of buying it from outisde of U.K. Option for returns are then limited plus shipping costs are expensive. Now I’m confused.

I personally feel £6,250 is overpriced for a used watch, considering the list price for a brand new 116610LN is this.

Have you tried to haggle the seller down on the price?

I'd purchase new for that price. So no, it's not worth it .. At least not for me .. You have to do what you feel is best for you.

Maybe but that’s VAT fraud pure and simple.

Not so many in the UK

Where was that watch coming from? My local bricks and mortar reseller (whom I trust implicitly and have bought from and sold too) has one from 2005 in what looks to be not quite as good conditon for £5,800, and theor prices are always fair, so if you can get that 2009 for £6k and its as good as they say its not that bad a deal in the current UK market

They've also got two 6 digit Subs (no date models) for £5,800 each.

Further to my last post, there is always someone who can get it cheaper, ‘can’ being the operative word. You may miss out for the sake of a couple of hundred pounds; an amount it’ll gain before you find the next one. Go for it.
