Explorer 1 Models (36mm - 39mm)
Think Rolex should have two new models of the Explorer 1:
- 39mm with 3230 (chronergy escapement, etc based on 3235) - 36mm with 2232 (syloxi hairspring, etc based on 2236) And I would definitely go for the 36mm (and probably give my trusty 114270 a well deserved vacation)... maybe in Basel 2020? |

I would buy one immediately. Probably 36mm. I think the new generation movements (3255, 3235) will fit in a 36mm case .... maybe 3230 in both versions?

I just don’t see Rolex making a 36mm explorer again. I think the OP took that place .

But yes, you can buy an OP36 and replace the Datejust-y hands with Professional line hands (I believe the hands from the Sub fit perfectly) and have something close to a 36mm Explorer. Especially if you go for the blue arabic 3-6-9 dial.

That's true - also a known fact is that the Explorer 36mm has the same dial / crystal dimensions as the Submariner 40mm but the Submariner's case is larger because of the rotatable bezel. That explains why the Explorer 39mm dial seems bigger when placed next to a Sub 40mm. Either way I prefer the Explorer in 36mm and I would love to see it re-released with a brand new movement

I'd buy a new 36mm Explorer tomorrow. I hope this becomes a reality some day.

I think a 37,5 Explorer would be perfect. It would fill the gap between the 36 and 39 OP.
Not too small, not too big. Vintage kind of size... Perfect. |

36mm
a productionalized 36mm Explorer would check all my boxes. I say this as someone who, somewhat reluctantly, will buy a 36mm OP in 2018. But I would greatly prefer the Explorer in 36mm, as it has the following:
black dial Arabic 3, 6, 9 Mercedes hands Explorer script Explorer "heritage"/gestalt I mean, if I could get a 36mm OP with black dial with Arabic 3, 6, 9, that would work well enough, but that doesn't exit |

My Explorer is an oldie K-serial manufactured in 2001 but I absolutely love it. The only way I would retire it is if Rolex ever re-releases another 36mm Explorer with new movement, bracelet, etc. But since this is just wishful thinking, I bet my 2001 Explorer will stick around for many years to come |
