There is only one (or maybe 2 at the most) flights per day from that airport on UA so they didn't even get to catch the later flight that day and stayed the night most likely. They fly all kinds of paid cargo, like the postal service and it has a higher status than people.
That happens a lot in small market airports. If you fly a lot, and have to be on time, you’re almost better off with a charter.

I like the fact that you can't edit your original post anymore.

I've never done the mile high thing personally. Whenever I get on an airplane my goal is to just get through the flight and get off of it as soon as possible. It's not that I don't enjoy flying, I do, but they are just so crowded and you don't have much room to move about.

I flew a lot last year, 40k miles 56 segments on United. Reached premier silver. Unfortunately, I did a good job working my scope ended a but early on October, so no more flights Nov/Dec, and I could not reach premier gold.

Got a free round trip flight to Houston/Brasilia out of all those miles, and I still have 102k miles to use this year...

I busted my butt and barely made it to platinum with Delta last year. Over 70 flights and still had to do a coast-to-coast mileage run in December to get me there. But most of my flights are short

So far it has been good. I get upgraded at least to comfort 100% of the time and 1st maybe 40-50%. Still, flying out of Atlanta there are a million Diamonds I’m competing with for the upgrades. I never get upgraded to 1st when I’m going to another major market from Atlanta like Chicago or LAX. When I’m going to a mid-market like New Orleans or Houston I get upgraded to 2st most of the time.

I’m a big guy so the extra space is very important

I thought everyone that had a Rolex had a private jet or two at their disposal?

United Global 5+ years. Perks? I get to board 1st.

I was Platinum for many years, then up to Pro. Last year I hit Exec Platinum. Guys, I can not describe how much of a difference it is! Just in the few flights I have had this year... incredible. Plat and Pro are good, but once you make it up to Exec, it’s like you crossed the threshold and are treated like royalty.

Is the difference like filling up with hot or cold air?

Delta diamond and knocking on the door of 2 million. Fly about 150k MQM/year. After flight home from India on Monday I will pass platinum status for this year- ouch.

Best perk is free vacation flights for the family.
