My photoshopped black and steel SD43 pic
I don't own this watch, but I am developing a thirst for it. Just for fun, I decided to photoshop black center links and a black crown and a red pearl triangle.
I like it, but I am sure purists won't be too enthused. |

No offense, Tom, but I honestly feel this is the kind of gimmicky schlock that would reduce Rolex to an also-ran real fast. This is Omega territory. I think Rolex is too smart to go there.

With regards with excuses for my wife when I find a SD43... Any ideas? Black gold (copied from Wikipedia) Black gold is a type of gold used in jewelry. Black-colored gold can be produced by various methods: Electroplating, using black rhodium or ruthenium. Solutions that contain ruthenium give a slightly harder black coating than those that contain rhodium. Patination by applying sulfur- and oxygen-containing compounds. Plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition process involving amorphous carbon Controlled oxidation of gold containing chromium or cobalt (e.g. 75% gold, 25% cobalt). A range of colors from brown to black can be achieved on copper-rich alloys by treatment with potassium sulfide. Cobalt-containing alloys, e.g. 75% gold with 25% cobalt, form a black oxide layer with heat treatment at 700–950 °C. Copper, iron and titanium can be also used for such effect. Gold-cobalt-chromium alloy (75% gold, 15% cobalt, 10% chromium) yields a surface oxide that's olive-tinted because of the chromium(III) oxide content, is about five times thinner than Au-Co and has significantly better wear resistance. The gold-cobalt alloy consists of gold-rich (about 94% Au) and cobalt-rich (about 90% Co) phases; the cobalt-rich phase grains are capable of oxide-layer formation on their surface. More recently, black gold can be formed by creating nanostructures on the surface. A femtosecond laser pulse deforms the surface of the metal, creating an immensely increased surface area which absorbs virtually all the light that falls on it, thus rendering it deep black, but this method is used in high technology applications rather than for appearance in jewelry. The blackness is due to the excitation of localized surface plasmons which creates strong absorption in a broad range in plasmon resonance. The broadness of the plasmon resonance, and absorption wavelength range, depends on the interaction between different gold nanoparticles. Last edited by thomaswentworth; 1 March 2018 at 01:44 PM.. Reason: added info about black gold |

I'm not a purist so I'll just post my thoughts on the black centre links
✓ The focus of the watch should always be on the dial and the black centre links are a visual distraction ✓ SS -PVD coated centre links are usually associated with designer watches and works tastefully with women wearing monotone black white fashion outfits ✓ The black centre links are also associated with modern sports timepieces inspired by professional motor racing and usually made out of pure ceramic. The classic example comes to mind is a Tag Heuer F1 Calibre 16 Chrono. ✓Interesting to know that Japanese GS engineers took the GS Spring Drive Chrono Titanium-Ceramic bracelet a step further. The black zirconia ceramic centre links are deceptively raised, the centre links are deliberately elevated on a higher plane compared to the Ti side links. The idea is for the "ceramic shield" to protect the Ti from daily grinding and scratches and take the " brunt on the injury". Downside : It's very expensive to manufacture. The GS SD Chrono in all steel is about half the price of a GS with ceramic casing + Ti- Zi bracelet That's why you don't see ceramic bracelets on the pure ceramic DSOTM/GSOTM Speedmasters casings and Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black series Aesthetically speaking, the black centre links don't work on a Rolex Diver watch . On the contrary unlike gold, the silver black two tone makes the watch look rather toyish and less expensive to put it politely. Of course you'll always have the freedom to do whatever you want and customized your Rolex Diver watch with a touch of DLC coating on the centre links but that's another story... |

I'm sorry but I'm not aware of Omega manufacturing any ceramic bracelets except for a patented Omega black ceramic clasp and buckle. Can you show me an Omega timepiece fitted with an Omega genuine patented ceramic bracelet or centre links ?
If you were referring to just the ceramic casing alone , I can rattle out another 12 watch brands that use ceramic casings/bezel inserts |

Your pictures do a good job of showing the kind of "schlock" I was referring to, and you're right to note that I was unfair in singling out Omega for that, since they don't actually do that specific style bracelet. I was thinking more of how Omega dilutes their core collection with too many special and limited editions, as well as experimenting with different materials that don't enhance the brand. But yeah...they have yet to do the ceramic or PVD/DLC center links.

My photoshopped black and steel SD43 pic
That looks really good. I especially like the black stripe on the bracelet, it gives it a racing theme.
As for excuse prepping: Honey, this is so rare these days to find, that I can immediately turn it around for a profit and if I wait a year, sky’s the limit. Honey, with the new tax laws I need to buy this or else will lose out on a tax benefit...it’s kind of complicated honey. Honey, this is super inexpensive with the currency exchange rate right now, I’d be a fool not to buy it. Currency?, yes honey, because it’s a Swiss foreign company the prices have dropped on them significantly. And remember to start everything with “I was told...” so that if you’re called onto the carpet you can act like there was some sort of grey area on the facts. Lol. Great skills with photoshop ( I struggle downloading a photo lol ) but no not for me . The only picture iv seen that looked ok was the one with the red writing in white ( covering the topic -if the red writing was a 12 month only thing ) I can’t think of any tweak that could improve the sd43 honestly not one
