GMT Pepsi Authentication

Hi, Looking to buy my first Rolex, And really want a 10yr or older GMT Master 2 pepsi bezel, But as it seems to cost a premium for a GMT with said Bezel I’m wondering if theres any way to identify an original from its serial etc. As I’m sure there have been people who’ve replaced the bezel insert for a Blue/Red one.
Any help is kindly appreciated

Regards Vince.

If I am not mistaken, and I may be, but there are initials after the serial number, such as 16710 A
and then one can tell what color the bezel was “at birth” lol... await the experts though, I could be wrong about this

Can’t tell from the serial number (aside from Rolex). Need the warranty paperwork:
16710A - Coke
16710B - Pepsi
16710N - Black/noir

Also have heard these designations were only used in the US or North America?

Not in the UK, no.
Buy on condition, the inserts are interchangeable

I would buy the best condition GMT I could , given whatever budget you have & put whatever insert in it you prefer . No one will ever know or care ,as this is the kind of detail only you will know . The older GMTs are the most versatile Rolex ever made ,& I have all three inserts & both oyster & jubilee bracelets . So you can choose whichever look you prefer. Currently using Pepsi insert with Jubilee on my 16700
