Fourth on the List

I called around a few AD's as soon as they opened on Wednesday morning in what I thought would be a futile attempt to get on a list for the new SS gmt pepsi. Most told me that they could take my name and phone number, but could not commit to anything further. However, one AD said they needed to talk to the manager and would call me back. No more than 20 mins later I got a call from them saying that I am now #4 on the list. Understandably, they could not give me a time frame.

My question to you all is simply this: what does that really mean? Fourth sounds pretty high up there to me, but I have to assume that all of their big time customers would get priority. So could #4 on the list still mean a 1-2 year wait or more?

For further context, I live in LA and have never purchased from this dealer before. In fact, I'm quite new to Rolex, and up to this point have only dealt with trusted sellers here.

Who knows? I still need to see the watch in person before fully commiting, so even if/when I do get the call I may decide to pass it on to the next lucky guy or gal on the list.

As always, your responses are greatly appreciated!

Here’s my advice. The good news is the fact that an AD gave you an actual number.

The bad news is that number probably doesn’t mean anything. Especially if you are not a repeat customer. Once the person with a long purchase history shows interest he/she will be placed between the top and the folks who are on the list but don’t have much history with the AD.

It doesn’t mean you won’t get the watch. But if it’s a random AD that you called, you’re not getting the 4th GMT to walk through the door. I’m quite sure of that.

So sit tight. Don’t pester the AD. And perhaps most importantly... go buy something in the meantime. It doesn’t have to be a 10k watch. Go strike up a conversation. Show them your passion. Make your name more than just some writing on their list.

I have "tens of people" before me, says my AD. I was quoted at least two years wait. I'll probably have given up by the time it's my turn. I'm not fussed.

I have tried to plop down the entire amount yesterday; literally a stack of hundreds and they would not take anything but my contact information...honestly I was shocked. I will continue vigilantly to stay in contact with the AD to post a down payment as soon as I can to ensure I can get one of these sooner than later.

I hope I’m wrong but I think it means nothing unless you are one of the chosen few. I hate the idea that when you walk into an AD, they make it sound like they’re doing you a favor by selling you a watch.

I’m done with them, have been for sometime, and will always go the TS route.
