Are there really thousands of AD’s? I thought the number was 900 worldwide. No idea where I heard that though.

My story is one of certainty, because I personally know (outside their work) two AD employees. One is in Miami and, has worked for AD for +5 years. The other is in Panama, Panama City +7 years. The Miami employee says he’s never physically seen a Daytona for sale. The Panama employee says she’s seen both black and white once. These numbers are in the whole term they’ve worked there, not this year.

Here is another point of view to try to reverse engineer the amount of Daytonas produced.
There’s around 300 SS Daytonas for sale on Chrono24 and production started in 2016 so it’s been 3 years and few months since it was announced (March 2016). Assuming they make 14.000 units per year that would be a total of 42.000 units in existence. That would mean only 0.7% of the watches sold are now available on the second hand market. Let’s assume that half of them get sold every month and new units come to the market. That would make a total of 1800 units sold on the secondary market per year. That makes 5400 (in three years) out of 42.000 units being sold by grey or private sellers. 12.8% of the watches end up on Chrono24 Obviously Chrono24 doesn’t represent the entire second hand market but it’s the biggest source for used watches. Does it look feasible? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Collectors are NOT buying it because it’s rare. They know it’s not rare. It’s an iconic watch that needs to be in their collection.

Rolex is one of the most secretive companies in the entire world. Do you think for one second that anyone worth anything that would know that kind of info at Rolex would divulge any production number to anybody outside the inner sanctum of Rolex? Please!
I am sure that production numbers are as guarded as the Ark of the Covenant was in the Holiest of Holiest rooms of Solomon's Temple. Only the high priest could walk in that room without getting vaporized by a death ray shooting directly out of the Ark! I expect there is something similar at Rolex guarding sacred production numbers. |

So when they run the watch for 6 years there will be 100,000 in existence. Honk honk. Enjoy your “rare” piece.

I have heard from my AD that Rolex does not make the daytona anymore.
Zenith makes the chronomaster sport and daytona on the same assembly line. Rolex just does the QC. /s |

What you hear from a AD is here say unless they can prove it with some sort of official Rolex documentation.

FWIW my AD says they get more steel Daytonas than any other reference, demand is just through the roof but they're common

Maybe that’s why they’re currently selling for 80-90k and why I’m still waiting Guess I’m just gonna have to be happy with my 500, 523, and 520. What I’d give for “this call”

Rolex does not officially disclose any numbers. It would be incredibly irresponsible of an executive to share these numbers with an AD. I do believe that you were told this but I feel the AD just made this up

the number of Rolex AD is known. if the executive could have an idea about how many daytona an AD can get in a year, it's not difficult to guess.

ADs get allocated around 12/year .
Usually,50/50 white/black . Some months nothing, other months more ,but the total for the year they do get . Many more ss Daytonas around compared to a WG GMT Meteorite or WG Blue Sub .Around 1/year . |

Read an article recently where the chap who wrote it literally counted all the ADs worldwide on the Rolex website. He counted 2300 or was it 2600… fwiw..

To add fuel to the fire while not trying to hijack the thread, my AD told me that the blue dial SkyDweller is even less than the Daytona combined (black/white).
It would be interesting to know if your 14k estimate combines both color variants or if its 14k of each.
