Royal Oak Everyday & Everywhere
Looking for some advice. I have read almost all the threads on “how delicate” and “is this OK for everyday” but am hoping to connect with those that really beat on the modern references.
I have been wearing a modern GMTc everyday for about two years. From the Board Room to the Gentleman’s club. Construction sites to weddings. Big meeting and large presentations to street hockey and alcohol fueled fist fights... it has served me well. I cannot get the thought of the silver 15400st out of my mind and am thinking of retiring my GMT or passing it along to a family member. Can the 15400 really handle my lifestyle? I doubt the sharp edges on the 15400 will look as good as the GMT after two years of daily wear. If you don't mind the scratches, I'm sure the watch will survive. You can always have it refinished (and AP will do a great job) when you send it in for the two year water resistance test.

As above poster noted, it's not if the watch can 'handle it'....it can. It's if you can 'handle' the wear and more noticeable scratches/blemishes on a much more expensive piece.
I think a Rolex sport model is one of the best daily drivers. It can take whatever you throw at it, servicing is not very expensive and it stays looking good for practically forever. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable wearing a RO daily. However, I say that in the position of not having the disposable income some other posters have. |

No. Unless you always wear it in a long sleeve shirt properly covered, your watch is going to get scratched or dinged with those activity.
For an AP that can handle what you described, you need a ceramic offshore.

Look up some pics of an AP bezel with lots of marks and if you can stomach it you're golden.

The watch/movement can handle plenty of abuse. Most ROs you’ll have to be okay with scratches. From a pure beater standing my FC diver is far more robust than my DSSD after daily abuse for 5+ years and my CE44mm is also perfect so far. I like ROOs as casual daily beaters and ROs for business and dress attire.

Keep gmt as daily beater ( I use my smurf). Wear the AP at night or “out”. I save my ROO for nights out, dates etc

The day you strap on your first AP or PP is the day you learn wrist awareness. Eventually it will be second nature.

AP: Compare the 15400, 15300, 15450 the 15400 is kinda big
A simple answer is no. Honestly I think the BLNR has more to offer then the RO. IF you have to get the RO, add to your BLNR |

Perfect watch for alcohol fueled fist fights. The sharp edges on the bezel especially.

Thanks for the input all! I’m not worried about scratches as I wear my watches. Glad to hear the movement is robust. I will start my search for previously enjoyed example.

I say go for it. Watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed. I am not necessarily saying put it through a wood chipper or go rock climbing with it, but its more robust than you would think. My SS 15400 and Diver are basically my every day watches and while there is some wear and tear they have held up really well and have aged beautifully.

I pretty much wore my 15400 daily for a year. Swiming in the ocean, pools, jacuzzis, saunas, worn biking, multiple long trips, desk diving, dinged it a few times... Have of course acquired a few scratches but actually still look very nice. Not a single mechanical issue with the watch, in my book it is up for daily use.

You can live this life with an AP or without. I think the choice is easy.

Add the RO. Use GMT as beater and RO for when you know it wont get beat up. I have a BLNR and the same white RO youre talking about and they go great with any occasion. the royal is is such a looker and if you can swing it absolutely get it.

I wear my 15400st in shorts, jeans, suit, and yes, even mogul skiing. I’ve taken some brutal falls with it and it’s running fine. I wouldn’t take it mtn biking because of the potential damage from rocks in a crash, but it’s not as delicate as some would have you believe.
