Feedback buying on Chrono24?

I have never bought anything on Chrono24, and most of the watches I have bought online has been from trusted seller on TRF. Which is great for modern Rolex, but not a great selection for vintage or older one. Has anyone bought from Chrono24, is it a popular way to buy older pieces? any positive / negative feedback or advices would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Tread very, very carefully. Treat it as you would Ebay, which means do tons of homework on the watch and seller.

There are some good sellers there, and some bad. Tons of fakes and Frankenwatches, but also some very nice pieces. Good luck!

The website is irrelevant, it is the scammers that are selling on it that is the problem. Don't risk it. Only buy from a source (such as an Authorized Dealer) where you are 100% sure that you are getting exactly what you are buying.

I have bought very successfully. I did my research and met the dealer in person in my office.

I'll second these comments. I've never purchased anything there and have heard about plenty of shenanigans going on there with sellers.

That is probably the only safe and secure way to buy there - but you still need to check the watch carefully, especially the newer models which are heavily counterfeited.

I've bought and sold on Chrono24. You can usually tell a good seller from how well they've described the watch, good quality pics, and of course any feedback they have. Always use trusted checkout which is an Escrow service. Seller doesn't get the funds until the buyer confirms they've received the watch as described.

There were a few members here who got scammed, teamed up, and chrono24 did not cooperate at all in sharing info about the scammer (trusted chrono24 seller btw), hiding behind privacy laws.

Chrono jumped in the thread as well, can't find it just now.

If the money you sent stays in escrow and there is a dispute than to who and when chrono24 will pay or refund is the question you need to ask.

Like others said, without lots of verifiable references for a seller walk away. If a deal is to good to be true it is just that. Pay a bit more from a trusted seller as known on TRF.

i personally would never purchase anything from there unless it was from a well known brick and mortar in the US (or your home country). too many horror stories about what goes on on there.

I look on 24 every now and again and usually decide it't not worth the trouble or risk/stress.

I’ve been tempted, but have always wound up resisting the urge to buy off there. Too many negative experiences accounted for and C24 does not seem to back the buyer when transactions don’t work out. For Rolex/Tudor, it’s AD or the Trusted Sellers on this forum only. For vintage Rolex/Tudor in the US, I’d look at 10pastten or another Trusted vintage dealer recommended on this site.

I bought a (non-Rolex) watch off Chrono24 once, a B&M store overseas was the seller, no problem. BUT. I wouldn't do it again knowing now what I didn't then, I was really relying on the seller's honesty. And eBay is a tossup, last watch I bought there, turned out the seller listed it right here for rather less money, dammit!

My advice is to post a WTB ad on this forum and see if anyone contacts you with advice or an offer. Lots of people have lots of watches they don't wear much and would be willing to sell, I must have a dozen myself if I can ever get round to listing them. Best of luck

I bought my Lange Chronograph via chrono24, so not a small purchase (for me at least). No issues with the seller, sent money via international wire, mailed across the states. I did my due diligence prior to concluding the deal and felt safe enough. Of course I’d prefer face to face but it’s not always practicable and these pieces don’t come up so often.

It’s just a platform for people to sell. I don’t see them as adding much legitimacy

There are a lot of fake watches on Chrono 24. Be very careful.

I've used Chrono24 a lot and I've never seen an obvious fake on there. Do your homework on the seller, and on the watch you're buying, don't take any risks, and you should be fine.

The majority of the watches are from International sellers ,every time i buy something from overseas i feel i get screwed on the exchange rate & i've only bought things like bezels or booklets ,not a big ticket item.Paypal makes up there own conversion rates & the people you buy from want there asking price net to them, so you end up paying all there fee's too ,never again for me.

Chrono24 offers excellent buyer protection. Trusted Checkout is the safest way to purchase your dream watch. Order from the dealer of your choice and pay safely via an escrow account. The dealer only receives the money once you have received your watch.

With Chrono24’s Buyer Protection, you are protected as soon as you place the order. In the rare case that something doesn’t go as planned, the support team will help you find a solution together with the dealer. Simply contact Chrono24 within 14 days of receiving your order.

If you have any other questions you can always email Chrono24 at [email protected]

Do you work for or sell on Chrono24? This is just a cut and paste from their website. Not a whole lot anyone can do if the seller evaporates and its not Chrono24's fault if you buy a fake piece.

Like everyone here has stated, Chrono24 is a sales platform, do your homework and make sure the seller is trusted. PM others with positive experiences and figure out how to send and receive securely and confidently. Be very careful and in this day and age you can successfully make a big purchase online.
