Suggestions for a worldtimer....
Hey all.
I'm currently considering a worldtimer but I'm not really familiar with what's available. So I'm looking for suggestions. I have about £20-25k perhaps up to £30k to spend on it. Not particularly concerned about PM or SS, bracelet or strap. All my current watches are Rolex so looking to branch out a bit. I mainly wear a Sub-c no date and a SS SkyDweller with a BLNR and a white dial Daytona on order. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

For me, a worldtimer is a Patek and as suggested look at 5130. Vacheron has Overseas and Traditonelle worldtimers but i find them busy as they display 37 timezones as opposed the industry norm 24 tones.
For value for money, JLC Geopyhsic is a good option, also suggested above already. If you do not really a worldtimer but u like the look of the display, i suggest you to look at ALS Timezone which is a dual time but with a city ring. And also JLC Duometre has an excellent option if you see after for a dual time too. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Chrono24 – UK private sale of Laurent Ferrier Galet Traveler. Just a bit over max budget at £35K (negotiable).
While there, look at the likes of Ulysse Nardin (Dual Time Enamel [2017 model], GMT Perpetual, and Executive DT), Glashutte Original Senator Cosmopolite, and Girard Perregaux Traveller. |

All good suggestions here. I had the pleasure to try on the VC overseas world timer and liked it a lot.
You need to start trying them to see what clicks for you. |

Suggestions for a worldtimer....
I'm not a fan of world timers that are also chronographs, so will not recommend any of those.
In my opinion, one of the most under appreciated and under valued brands is Girard-Perregaux, which has a long history and all in-house movements. They have a very nice World Time watch in their current 1966 collection in pink gold or steel, the latter also with a bracelet option. In the past, they also had one with a perpetual calendar, which is a very useful complementary complication, and you may still be able to pick up one of those new. Finally, there was the John Harrison limited edition of 50 from 2011, which would be a unique watch to own if you could find one. Bizarrely, this is the only watch I can find made as tribute to one of the most important figures in horology. |

GP have done a few tribute to JH models. Sea Hawk II Ltd Ed (luminous printed 12, 3, 6, 9 numerals) Sea Hawk II (polished appliqué 12, 3, 9 numerals) GMT Traveller (moon/large date) in RG only, I think. |

I stand corrected. That said, I'm still surprised how few there are given his contribution. |

I think it must be the Patek. I prefer the last model, 5130. If you get a chance to see one on a bracelet you might be surprised, completely different watch.
Good luck. This will be a fun search. |

Thanks for the input everyone.
I already had the PP 5130 and 5110 on my radar. I'll try to get around the boutiques and try some of the options on. I'm in Dubai for a couple more weeks so it will give me something to do in the evenings. |

I agree, that one's a classic!
I love the look and the concept, but with DST variations around the globe and countries changing their traditional timezones, you'll be lucky if any WT reference will be accurate even 50% of the time. That, unfortunately for me, is a deal breaker. |

The GP's offer tons of looks and complication options. My favorites are the non-chrono models, but the chrono versions are pretty sharp, too.

You press the pusher to rotate the outer disc to your home city (time zone). You then set your home time. The small disc on the right is your home hour. When you press the pusher again and advance the outer disc to your new city, the hour hand advances to the new hour but the small disc on the right still shows your home hour.

I have been struggling for a world timer I really like. None of them hit all the important buttons for me.
1) I love the patek but without a seconds hand -- non starter 2) I like the VC overseas world timer but as mentioned-- a bit too busy. I like that it is a sports watch and comes with two other straps. This is still at the top of my list though 3) The JLC geophysic is nice but the seconds hand hand moves like a quartz seconds hand and that would bug me. 4) The new Breitling Navitimer 8 world timer is a possible option -- they are due out any time now https://www.breitling.com/us-en/watc...AB3521U01G1P1/ 5) I have an ALS timezone 1 but not really a world timer. You cannot easily see all the time zones.. 6) IWC makes two world timers.. one is a chrono. |

The JLC’s seconds hand function is known as a dead/true beat/second – the way many watches were made in days of yore. |

I'm a big GP fan. I think there are some very pretty worldtimers out there from other brands, but I don't know of another brand with so many model options. As said in the excellent post with the pics, I prefer the less busy, non-chrono versions.
Nice, pre-owned GP worldtimers can easily be had for below $10,000. That may even include precious metals. I'm referring to the older models. |

There is also the Montblanc Orbis Terrarum. A fairly decent budget option as they can be found pre-owned for very reasonable prices:
