I have a 1016 knockoff (one of those Tiger cases with a Miyota inside) I wear while travelling, looks okay, and if I lose it, no tears. I wouldn't feel comfortable getting drunk at the bar on the beach with my genuine 1016 on, and holidays are for relaxing IMO.

Touristy bits of well-behaved Japan? Sure. Phuket, Bangkok, San Fran, Manila? Maybe not. I walk around Toronto with no worries, but Toronto's pretty safe compared to most places.
