OK, that's completely reasonable. Sorry to be oblique. Just wanted to link watch to cobbles via a tangential rumpled bedsheets shot.

On a quite different note, Watchfinder sponsored ITV4's coverage of the 2017 TdF and the ad preceding the show invariably showed a bearded Cantona-alike gentleman cycling down a typically French straight road, bordered on either side by plane trees, sporting a rather nice watch, presumably recently acquired from WF. Was it a Hulk? I forget. It certainly had some green in it. Perhaps someone might recall.

As usual Adam you've Rode or Rose ( excuse the puns ) to the occasion . Your knowledge of vintage references is in my opinion unsurpassed .

I rode my Rolex/Omega/Seiko automatic watches to mountain biking a few times, even crashed with my watches on my wrist, they all did OK...But there's a risk you can damage your watch in a crash.

I wore my GMT riding my motorcycles every day from early 1970's to fairly recently. Had a couple of tumbles, nothing too serious. The watch was usually
tucked under either my leathers sleeve or leather glove. Touring, thousands and thousands of miles all over Europe, through all sorts of weather, even over Belgian cobbles too! Not a scratch, & She never missed a beat.

I gave 'Biking' up a little while ago. I thought I'd give it up, before it gave me up. I'm pushing 70 now and gave in to gentle pressure from my daughters.
I wasn't enjoying it as much as I used to. People are SO aggressive on the road these days.

I ride my push bike nearly every day now, and prefer to keep my Rolex at home.
My Pro-Trek has very useful stop-watch functions, and, with the current values of older GMT's, the smarter move is to leave it behind.
Note to self: Update the insurance valuation!

"Is it safe to wear my Rolex in the shower?"............WHAT!!!!

The answer is simple. If you are serious about your fitness a Rolex is completely wrong for the task. You may be a serious wis but not about your fitness. Use the proper tool for the job. A Garmin or Polar watch...

If you're just traveling down this road on your way to work, find a different road, adjust your route.

The wis community seems devoid of a little common sense all at the expense of wearing a watch.
It's just a watch, continue to be practical and smart about life, leave the watch out of it.
Should I travel to x place with my watch, can I do x with my watch....
Well gee, let's see, would your body be safe there, would you take your child there, would you let your wife wear her jewelry openly, is there a practical benefit to using a Rolex during x....forget the watch, use the same standards and considerations of normal life and you will find you come to the right conclusion.

Why would my wife need her expensive diamond ring to spend a day at the beach tossing in the surf, jet skiing and play wrestling with me in the water. It's fun time... She leaves it home and wears a simple band, came up with that on her own. Hmmm makes sense, considering I lost a nice chain I bought in Bali some ten years ago playing in the beach, came off, didn't notice it and disappeared in the sand, forever.

Can you take your cool awesome St Laurent leather jacket that costs you $7k on Mt Everest's base camp one, sure buddy the jacket can take it, no problem...but you're going to freeze your ass off while I'm chilling in my down goretex Arcteryx parka that costs me a grand.

Maybe consider a tourbillon for such events

If you need to know the local time while riding your bike, you may need to refocus the reasons you’re on the bike.

For example:
If you’re training, there are much better choices (and cheaper ones) for timing splits or segments than a Daytona.

If you’re headed to work, there should be room in your bag for your Rolex.

Ownership comes with responsibility

I ride to work short 4 mi commute occasionally streets are closed and have to go down cobblestone streets ,wear a Rolex most of the time doesn’t seem to hurt them.People seem to foreget that most of the sports watches started their life as tool watches and are very sturdy.
