Ebay 7928

Is there something special about this watch that I am missing or have the underline dialed 7928's reached this price.

original gilt minute chapter underline apparently commands premium - assume the "naval" affiliation adds a few more bucks to it.

Watches related to the navy seem to have a price that makes people surprise

Nice watch that is possibly issued. What’s not to like?

The price! 15K plus for a Tudor is insane.

Someone is willing to pay for prevenance. Not the first time. :)

Watch looks to be in good untouched condition from 1963 and is easily above 10k without the interesting story and engravings. I can see people paying much more than 15k for this watch.

I'm not a Tudor expert but it seems an interesting watch... at the hammer price the future buyer will have to add the cost for a long 5 insert (selling the mark 3 provided could get a part of the spending). Maybe a long 5 with red triangle... if he will be able to find it...

The skinny four insert is correct for the serial. It is a rare model only used around -63 which corresponds perfectly to the serial. Description is wrong saying the watch is from -59.

Wish someone could shed further light on the subbase inscription. I have a feeling it might be something he had done rather than issued as there was no literature on US issued divers in there.

My personal guess is also that this is a watch purchased at a PX rather than being issued. Where the engraving was done by the owner. I’m however not great with issued watches so I could be wrong. This is still a very interesting watch regardless if the navy issued it or if it just been a personal watch.

^^^^ Precisely this. Very rare; Underline / Steelhand / Silver Print / with a Skinny 40 insert. All original 1963 - probably 3rd quarter ; )

$15k for a Tudor Sub is NOTHING. I guess you missed the manual wind 7923/24 last year. Tudors were made in smaller numbers than Rolex equivalents. I think they were neglected more because of their Pricepoint. I have never seen a caseback engraving like that either

How would mine compare to this. Bought from the original owner who bought it at the Naval Exchange at Pearl Harbour. He was a Navy Diver and saw active combat during the war. Said he wore the watch everyday until he returned to tge States in 1973.

The watch sold for $35911. I had never heard of the Subbase 8. Really interesting history.

Excellent read—thanks for posting this link. Now I know for sure my father could have picked one up in the USN in the ‘50s and 60s...opportunity missed, unfortunately (he swore by Waltham).

I would want to see better photos of your watch but three major things stick out;
  • The one that went on Ebay was in excellent conditions
  • The Navy back ground might have an edge (depending on how well it can be verified - on either watch)
  • The Ebay watch is a SWISS Only 63 Pointed Crown Guard with a Bib Bubble Sweep and a rare insert available for less than 2 years.

The SWISS only Silver Print Gilt Track from a PCG is almost 1mm larger all around than the 64-67 T SWISS T dial.

Your watch was awesome - send more photos ; ) - but your watch is a rounded CG 1964, not a PCG. And did I mention your watch is awesome?

I knew it would go in high teens, I am not surprised when it went into 20s (on phone with a bud when he was thinking of going low 20), and I am amazed but not entirely surprised that it went this high. Makes me sweat a similar one I did not get last year for under 8k.

Here is a friend's - with papers - that was purchased on USS Forrestal

And a Pair of cool PCGs

I was watching very closely this morning. The bidding just went off the last few seconds. I will have an incoming soon. Not as cool as the ebay one but pretty darn cool.
