Help: 5513 from 60's. Is that ok?
Hello everybody,
I'm Nicola. I'd like to ask you about this 5513 SER. 172XXXX YEAR 1967. Bracelet 3/66, endlink 80. Crown and hands have been replaced. Maybe also the plexi? I'd like to know if the watch looks good to you. Could it be a good deal for 9,5k? Thanks a lot. |

Photos are not too good so hard to be absolutely sure but insert looks a newer replacement and suspiciously faded. More worrying seems to be the staining round the edge of the dial. Better pics will draw more informed comments.

Wow. Do you think insert is aftermarket? Could be.
So this 5513 it's not a good deal. Is a good insert for this whatch about 2k dollars? Thanks. |

Hands are likely service hands, but the inserts is consistant with 66-67 5513.
The flat 4 is a giveaway to being correct. the movement is very clean, unusually clean... must have been serviced recently? Case looks very nice, no rust, no pitting looks good. Bracelet could be re-titghtened and you could possibly source period correct hands.Backcase looks a little worn-out, so maybe a water tightness test might be needed. Does it come with the original papers? |

The font is too thin. For 66-67 subs I would see a long 5 insert.

The splotchy fading on the insert is indicative of bleaching. It isn't original either. Additionally comments would be a hit and miss for me due to the photo quality.

I stand by my statement:
"inserts is consistant with 66-67 5513. The flat 4 is a giveaway to being correct." Pictures aren't that great and of course there is lens distortions to take into account, but right now I am looking at a hi-rez picture of a 1968 5513 insert, it's a flat 4, the 5 on the 50 looks pretty much the same, the 3 and 2 looks good, the increments from 1 to 15mn on the bezel are thinner which is consistant with that period. Can I be wrong, sure. I always love to learn new things : ). Call it an educated guess. |

Ok. Thanks a lot. Anyway, we know hands and crown are from service. Bezel is 99% fake. But with time and some cash I can fix It. What do you think about this 5513? I mean the case and what you can see from this pics. Do you think I can make an offer?
Many thanks. |

My opinion: Considering the cash you need to fix it (time correct), the price is normal (if usd, not euro). And of course you can make the seller an offer.
Last week I was reading post here from +/-2013. Somebody wrote something like this: "at the moment a 5513 from the 70-ies is around 5k usd" These times are gone. And what will we write in 2023? Last week an excellent 5513 from a good dealer on IG was offered for 25k usd. Follow last auction weekend in Geneva, different league, but crazy in my opinion. Good luck El prosa! The Lume in the new pic looks a bit rugged. Particularly at 10 & 11, but most look almost porous, like coral.

Not an example I would be crazy about.
Insert IMO is definitely not consistent with 66-67. It is either a service, or an aftermarket. Flat 4s were in mid fonts and service inserts. I have a service insert that looks very similar to that one, but black as it was not bleached(which looks to be the case on the one posted in OP). |

My 2cents on this watch.
1) hands definitely service 2) crown appears to be 703 but an earlier version (you can see the crimp on the inner side) 3) Bezel insert appears to be aftermarket - some hybrid between mid font and thin font version. The lume pip also sticks out too high from the pictures 4) worth getting another shot of the dial? lume looks quite dark not yellow but greenish? (or is that my sh1tty monitor?) |

The insert is not period correct. It’s a service insert that was bleached.
The dial looks like it had water moisture previously. Not a good looking one either. The case has been polished to death. Many service parts. It could be a put together watch made to look vintage. I personally would stay away. It doesn’t bring me pleasure wearing it. You can do better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
