True. But that’s just way too low isn’t it? It’s almost misleading.

The final price will be close to the RRP and once you had the auction fees on top of that, it will become ridiculously expensive.

As a side comment, you can make a killing out of auctions in Europe if you are patient and know what you are buying. Lots of bargains including for relatively "rare" pieces such as the 16520.

Happens all the time and are usually way off so not surprised. It’s a pre auction estimate and is meaningless when it comes to final hammer.

The Auction Houses always shoot low so the consigner is happy in the end.

Agree it is just an estimate. Maybe even by the 20 year old plugging it into the database! Arbitrary number.

Question could the valuation game work both ways? Say they valued it at $15,000 an uneducated buyer might pay RRP or even a bit over feeling they bagged themselves a bargain.

Well it might skyrocket in price since that particular Hulk is “THE PROPERTY OF A DISTINGUISHED PRIVATE SWISS COLLECTOR”

Christies doesn't know the watch market as well as TRF.

They just see used stainless steel Rolex.

We had an auction recently where vintage Rolexes were sold for 3 and 4 times the high estimate so these things are just bidbait.

That very low estimate is a blot on the Christie’s brand methinks. It’s not the opening bid - it’s supposed to be a reasonable auction estimate.

Just a ploy to get bidders in. No different than a car dealer advertising a single car at a ridiculous price. When a buyer shows up, that car just sold but they are happy to show full priced models. Once there, It’s much easier to separate bidders from their money.

Christie's is The World's TOP watch auction house and offers the highest chance of finding the most well funded , top clients and watch collecters in the world.

Don't be fooled by the initial appraisal of Ref 116610LV Hulk. The starting or asking bid price is always underestimated but I won't be surprised if the impressive final hammer price of the Hulk in Hong Kong would be in the range of US$ 25-30K

There's another interesting lot that you guys should check out....I'm predicting that Kermit would fetch a final bid price of between US$ 45-50K
