Legitimate Papers?
Did Rolex New York sell watches directly in the 80s?

Since that looks like a standard typewriter print and is different from the date, I would be very skeptical about it.

The paper indicates it came directly from Rolex USA in NYC - and yes, they did sell watches direct. I've owned a couple watches with the same stamping. One of them I purchased from the original owner who received it from his uncle who worked for Rolex.
As far as being authentic, I do not see any issues with the paper.

Larry, doesn't the date look like a rubber (probably rotating old-school style) date stamp? It might make sense that that's how they dated all their papers, while typing the rest.

My example below is rubber stamped and not typed.

My quick look seemed to indicate darker peaks and lighter lines as you would see from a typewriter, plus it is perfectly aligned, hence my skepticism. I wouldn't disagree that a closer look and matching watch, etc. shows good paper.

I thought "Papers" were only proof the "Papers" were real. I'm always skeptical of them as a rule of thumb. My watchmaker is my COA.

Papers are easier to fake than the watch and should never be the sole criteria for authenticating any watch.

Beware of this German FleeBay seller:
wally500753 His "papers" are poor reprints. I fell for one and had too much trouble getting my money back. Fake scans and poor regular paper reprints. I had one original to compare with and... oh God! This is what I've bought, he's selling it once again: https://www.ebay.de/itm/ROLEX-Guaran...sAAOSwWYhamsq8 My original below. He didn't count on it. Even the smell is something else. Last edited by Filipćo; 6 June 2018 at 10:49 AM.. Reason: forgot image |

True enough. The only way to verify papers are to have them in your hand where you can feel the engraved and embossed portions of legit paperwork. Hard to do from a picture... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
