The nagging feeling of wearing non-Rolex watches... it's not a Rolex
Whenever I wear my Omega Speedy or Seamaster or vintage Seiko pieces, they are all fantastic watches and outstanding in quality. However, there's something about wearing a Rolex that is impossible to replicate with any other watch. I've tried Pateks and AP's, and neither of those brands do it for me, either.
Perhaps it's the raw power of the brand, or the iconic oyster case, or in my case, the immediate gravitas of the submariner. When I wear my other watches, I always seem to find myself feeling that something is missing. Can anyone else relate? Perhaps I'm becoming addicted to Rolex? |

I agree, Rolex is Rolex. No doubt.

That's always been my problem too and kept me from buying other makers. Came pretty close to getting a Speedy but its not a Daytona.

Yeah I’m guilty of this. Why my incomings from other brands never lasted long...

I can certainly relate. Rolex is Rolex and special imo. They have done a great job marketing the brand.

Actually I'm usually pretty happy with whatever watch I decide to wear for the day, or week. Sometimes I plan which one, other times it's whichever one I decide on at that moment.

No such feeling for me. I wear my $300 Seiko Turtle PADI daily and love it, even wore it to a Rolex Basel event at my local AD, I think I've reached a state when it makes no difference how much it costs nor it's a Rolex or not.

I was really close to buying the Speedmaster and before I did, I decided that I would have to learn to love it for its own beauty and craftsmanship. Another Rolex came in my way... But I will buy the speedy!

I can relate to this. I often pull out a Rolex to wear for the day, then a couple of hours later switch to a Seiko diver, Grand Seiko or Tudor.

Not me. I wear my speedy 90% of the time. The sub stays in the winder and I only wear it when I’m in the mood for it, which is rare. When I go out on weekends it’s the Seamaster that gives me company. At night I put on either a Hammy or a Timex with indiglo. Glycine airman for the gym or swimming.
The reason why I collect watches is that I don’t trust how my tastes fluctuate. Right now, I’m loving my khaki field and it’s been getting a lot more wrist time. On the rare occasions that I have the 116610 on my wrist (my only Rolex because I’m not interested in any of the other models, save maybe for the new white OP), I don’t allow myself to feel that I have something more special on my wrist than the other watches I got. But that’s just me, of course. Next on my list is the new GP Laureato chrono. Maybe that one will make me feel special. Or not. |

For whatever reasons, Rolex is special, but I don't limit myself to the brand or feel that I'm missing something when I wear something else.
If anything, I feel guilty for ignoring my other watches too long, even the cheapest ones. For the next week or more I'll be wearing this little, vintage Tissot and loving it.

For me, it’s the oyster bracelet. Nothing come close, not even AP or Patek.

The harsh reality of first world problems But completely understand - My Rolex is a reminder of the steps taken to “get here” and to keep moving forward Dont get that feeling from my vintage Omege Geneve, which i overpaid for at T&H - even though i adore the watch

Not me. Bread and water or lobster and steak. I prefer one, but I’m perfectly at home with the other.

No for me I always wear what I want no matter the brand, and although Rolex is a fine make of watch so are many others. Even what some call low end brands, they are all just watches, and they all tell the time nothing more.
