This is such an open-end question..

It depends on many factors, starting with what do you want to do? how much experience do you have? do you have a family to support? how good are you?

You can do consulting, you can work at startups, or well established software companies, or non-software companies with software departments (bank for example).

I have worked for startups and established software and non software companies and they all have advantages and disadvantages.

In a smaller company or a startup, if you prove yourself worthy, you can quicker go up the ladder. Startups' future is less secure than in a big company. They might compensate better, but you might find yourself looking for a job sooner.

If you are fresh out of school, I would recommend focusing on personal development (find a company that provides mentorship or continuous education) and do what interests you.

What is your focus? Gaming, web, desktop software, backend?
If you are into game development, don't look for a job in trading company :)

Whatever you choose, make sure you are happy with what you're doing. Staying stuck where you don't like it is not healthy long term.

Good luck!

Are you wanting to work for a software development company, or are you trying to choose one for your business software?
